Purity

Today, I received my paycheck after working all month at the hotel, even picking up a bit of their language.

Today, I also quit my job and bought a ship ticket to Jaco in Costa Rica. I spent my salary on the ticket and will work on the ship to cover my food until we arrive. It's going to be many days of travel to get there. But I'm happy; I'm seeing amazing places and meeting wonderful people. There's always someone trying to get me into bed, but they never succeed. I'll only sleep with a man when he's my partner - at least in that aspect, I remain pure.

I board the ship and head straight to my cabin, settle everything, and rest because I start work here tomorrow. I fall asleep immediately because I'm so tired; I've worked double shifts all month, eating and drinking as quickly as possible to make the most of my time, accepting tips from tourists and doing extra jobs like cleaning and arranging their clothes. I even washed clothes for some who were too lazy to use the hotel's laundry services. I kept all the profits.

I wake up feeling restless, but I can't explain it and can't fall back to sleep. I take a shower, change clothes, and go out on deck. There, I gaze at the water and spot a boat approaching in the distance. It's still far away, but I feel that restlessness again.

"Moon Goddess, always by my side, help me on this journey, ensure that what I'm feeling is something good, the change I've been dreaming of, thank you my goddess."

I say a prayer to my moon goddess mother and feel peace in my heart. I head back inside to find the restaurant as I'm now starving.

"Hello, miss, good evening, please feel at home."

"Do you speak Portuguese? That's great, haha, it's been a while since I've been able to talk to anyone."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Please don't call me ma'am, I'm starting work with you all tomorrow, so we're colleagues."

"Pleased to meet you, my name is Sandra, and yours?"

"My name is Purity, and the pleasure is mine, Sandra."

"Are you here for dinner? We have tables for employees in the back, but you're welcome to sit out here too."

"What time are you going out for dinner?"

"In two minutes, if you'd like to wait, we can go together."

"Yes, I'll wait."

I wait and soon Sandra returns in her changed clothes. We grab our plates and serve ourselves from the buffet.

"Wow, we can eat all this food?"

"Yes, this section is for employees and there's a wide variety."

"Delicious, haha."

"You're funny, Purity. If you don't mind me asking, why do they call you that?"

"My mother named me after my white hair, and since white represents purity, here I am, haha."

"That's lovely, haha."

We sit down, eat, and drink; the food is delicious, it's been a long time since I've had a real sit-down meal.

"I think I'm going to burst, haha."

I say, and Sandra laughs with me.

"Well, now I'm going to head back to my room and sleep because tomorrow I wake up before sunrise. Good night, Purity, see you tomorrow."

"Good night, Sandra, it was a pleasure, see you tomorrow."

She leaves, and I also head back to my room, but feeling full, I decide to take a walk around the deck instead.
