Agent Kang's expression remained stern as he regarded Leo and Camellia. "I understand your desire to help, but this is a matter of national security. I cannot simply hand over sensitive information or allow civilians to interfere in an ongoing investigation."
Camellia felt her heart sink, but she refused to back down. "Agent Kang, please. We've already uncovered evidence that suggests Yohan may not be who he claims to be. Isn't that information worth considering?"
The agent's brow furrowed slightly, and Camellia could see the gears turning in his mind. After a moment, he let out a heavy sigh.
"I'll be honest with you, Ms. Choi. Your findings have piqued my interest. However, the nature of this case is highly classified, and I'm not at liberty to discuss the details, even with you."
Camellia's eyes widened with hope. "So you're saying there's a chance you might consider our information?"
Agent Kang raised a hand, silencing her. "I didn't say that. What I'm saying is that I'll need to review the evidence you've gathered and determine if it's worth pursuing further."
Leo leaned forward, his expression earnest. "Agent Kang, we're not asking to be involved in your investigation. We simply want to share what we've found and let you decide how to proceed."
The agent studied them for a long moment, his gaze calculating. Finally, he nodded. "Very well. I'll take a look at the documents you've provided, but I make no promises. This is a highly sensitive matter, and I can't afford any missteps."
Camellia felt a surge of relief. "Thank you, Agent Kang. We understand the gravity of the situation, and we'll respect your decision, whatever it may be."
Agent Kang nodded, his expression still guarded. "I appreciate your cooperation. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some work to do."
Camellia and Leo rose from their chairs, their hearts racing. As they made their way out of the office, Camellia couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.
"Do you think he'll actually consider our information?" she whispered to Leo.
Leo shook his head, his brow furrowed. "I'm not sure. Agent Kang seemed intrigued, but he's clearly playing his cards close to his chest. We'll just have to wait and see."
As they exited the building, Camellia couldn't shake the feeling that they had just stepped into a world far more complex and dangerous than they had ever imagined.
The days that followed were filled with a tense waiting game. Camellia and Leo went about their daily lives, but their minds were constantly preoccupied with the fate of Yohan and the information they had uncovered.
Finally, after nearly a week, Camellia received a call from Agent Kang.
"Ms. Choi, I'd like you and Mr. Kim to come back to the office. We need to discuss the information you provided."
Camellia's heart raced as she relayed the message to Leo. They wasted no time in making their way back to the government building, their anticipation palpable.
When they arrived, Agent Kang greeted them with a solemn expression. "Please, have a seat."
Camellia and Leo settled into the chairs, their eyes fixed on the agent.
"I've reviewed the documents you provided, and I must say, I'm quite impressed with the work you've done," Agent Kang began. "The discrepancies in Yohan's background are indeed concerning, and they align with some of the intelligence we've been gathering."
Camellia felt a surge of hope, but she remained cautious. "So what does this mean? Do you believe Yohan could be a North Korean spy?"
Agent Kang let out a heavy sigh. "I'm afraid the situation is more complex than that. Based on our investigation, it appears that Yohan's true identity is still a mystery, even to him."
Leo's brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"From what we've uncovered, Yohan was likely born in North Korea and smuggled across the border as a child. His birth records and other documents were forged to create a new identity for him here in South Korea," Agent K.
