Episode 11

After conversing with her, the king escorted Princess Majic to her room and commanded the court ladies to assist her in changing into her sleepwear, while he waited outside; the ladies found the king's behavior quite peculiar; nevertheless, they could only comply with the monarch's orders; once the princess was ready, the king entered and requested everyone to leave.

Princess Majic wondered why the king was in her room, praying he wouldn’t do anything like the previous night, even with her hands bandaged she covered her whole body with her bedspread.

"Relax, I'm not going to pounce on you like last night," the king said, trying to soothe the young woman.

"What do you want?" asked the princess.

"I just want to talk to you, ask you some questions; once I have your responses, I'll leave the room and you can rest."

"If that's all, then go ahead and ask," the princess replied.

"Do you know how to read, you seem to speak our language well? What is your predominant magical power? And if you could choose any place to go freely, what would your ideal place be?" inquired the king with a hint of warmth.

"My mother used to speak this language to me, I remember it clearly, I replayed it in my head over and over, it was the way to remember my mother; and even though I've only been here three days, hearing and speaking it continuously help me recall it even more; I don’t know if I remember how to read, my mother taught me, but it was so long ago; there are a lot of things I don’t remember from my life before the tower, like how to use cutlery," the princess answered with a touch of melancholy.

The king wondered whether Princess Majic’s mother had been a scholar from the Council of Education of the magical realms of Hurmaya, it was unusual for a woman to be educated in the languages of the kingdom; the fact that the princess knew the language of Fontana from the moment she arrived had suggested that the princess had received an exceptionally high level of education, which made her behavior all the more puzzling, he could never have imagined what the young woman had gone through in life.

"I don’t know what a predominant magical power is, (looking at her hand) this is the only magic I’ve known, I don't know what to tell you," the princess commented.

How could King Carpio hold such hatred against his daughter as to not discover what magical powers she might possess; every descendant from the royal families of the Magical Community of Hurmaya were endowed with the most powerful supernatural abilities, it was odd that not even in the pursuit of uncovering the incredible power his daughter might possess, had the King of Susumira investigated the princess’s gifts.

"When I was very young, my mother took me to a shimmering blue lagoon, with beautiful colorful mountains surrounding it; I don’t remember what we did there, but if I could go to a place like that I would love it, it’s as if my heart longs for it," the princess said pleasingly.

The king stood up, approached Majic, who was startled, believing he had lied and was going to do something like the night before, until the king gave her a kiss on the forehead and then headed for the door; the story of the lagoon and the mountains seemed to stir memories within the king that he did not yet understand.

"Please rest, I will change that bandage myself early tomorrow; good night," said the king and exited the room, as if that young girl reminded him of something he had forgotten.

The princess sighed in relief, she was so tired that she fell asleep immediately.

Meanwhile, Tesko was getting redressed, while Lady Zarila lay in her bed, enveloped in her covers, her naked body beneath.

"Tomorrow you must go to the palace in the evening, you should try to control yourself and treat the princess kindly; you will carry some items that I've already placed in the carriage, gifts for her; you must manage to entertain her so much, until it gets very late, so late that you’ll have to stay overnight at the palace," Tesko said very quietly.

"Why must I stay overnight?" asked Lady Zarila.

"Because tomorrow night you must slip into the king’s bed," Tesko explained, finishing dressing.

"But, just like that, I'm not sure... it's so rushed, and he’ll realize that I am no longer..." Lady Zarila said nervously.

"You will use a special perfume when you enter, I’ll have something put in his drink too, he won’t be able to resist wanting to be with you, but at the same time, he will become dizzy and lose consciousness; then you'll see what happens, don’t be afraid, dear," Tesko assured her as he prepared to leave.

"Is it easy for you to see me with another man?" asked Lady Zarila.

"It’s not that it’s easy, my dear, I just understand that it serves our purposes, you will always be my love, no matter what,'" Tesko said with utter cynicism.

The Royal Advisor left Lady Zarila’s residence the same way he entered, unseen; to immediately return to the palace, to ensure the trap he had set for the king was well-prepared.

King Fortem couldn't sleep, so he decided to go horseback riding to clear his thoughts and decide the course of action to take. Princess Majic was still a child in his eyes, it wasn’t possible for him to see her as a woman; however, the mark on her hand reminded him she was his wife, therefore he thought he needed time for this marriage to work, despite a strange feeling that told him it wasn’t right.

He told himself that first, he had to ensure the princess behaved properly and gained the strength needed to face the inevitable scorn of the court for being King Carpio’s daughter; secondly, he needed to rebuild his kingdom so the image of the war would fade away, perhaps softening the gaze towards the princess; and thirdly, it was necessary for time to pass for the princess to grow from girl to woman, and for him to feel attracted to his wife, although something inside him said she wasn’t meant for him.

With his plan conceived, he just needed to set it into motion, and for that, he needed the help of Lady Marila, who also looked after his younger brother, eighteen-year-old Prince Josag with stunning grey eyes, who could hardly walk for long periods after the last confrontations with King Carpio, being his little brother the sole reason he finally agreed to the peace treaty, leading to the marriage with Princess Majic, which he strives to maintain despite all difficulties.
