No Longer The Marquess' Wife
Episode 5 : Bargain
Talia
Would you buy my eyes?
Noah flinched when he heard Talia talk about selling her eyes.
Noah
Do you know what you are talking about lady?
Noah
...and what makes you think I am a person who purchases eyes?
Talia
This is the "Orion Alley".
Noah
Looks like you know what the Alley's purpose is for.
Noah stood up from his seat and walked over to face his bizarre customer and reached out for her face.
Noah
That's quite an interesting offer you have there...
As he had gotten the customer's permission Noah leaned over and carefully held Talia's left cheek placing his thumb near her eyes.
Talia
( The "Orion Alley", how could I not have heard of such a thing when I used to work for different places in the past? )
Talia
( Of course I knew what this Alley is for and I came with a goal )
Talia
( At the surface it might look like some Alley that does buying and selling different products, but when you get too deep... various illegal things are sold. )
Talia
( This is just the perfect place for me to be able to achieve my new life. )
Talia thought to herself as the man before her carefully examined her eyes.
Noah removed his hands swiftly when he heard Talia ask.
Noah
Do you know the meaning behind having turquoise eyes?
Talia
I haven't thought of it.
Talia
What do I have to know?
Noah
You don't have to bother about it anyway it's nothing that superficial.
Noah said as he walked to the shelves.
Noah
Do you wish to go blind?
Talia
Seriously why are you responding with another question....
Talia
Didn't you just tell me to "name my price?"
Noah
I just want to know if you're aware of the consequences of selling one component of your five senses.
Talia
I don't want to go blind, we haven't even reached a deal yet.
Talia
I guess I should have phrased my words better a while ago.
Talia
Can I trade my eyes with another set of eyes of a different color?
Noah
Why do you want to trade your eyes for another?
Noah
( Maybe she lied when she said she doesn't know... )
Noah
( Wait, come to think of it she never affirmed that she didn't know her origin )
Noah's past memories came back to him that very moment.
You have to protect... that child.
Noah, time won't wait for us.
You know that don't you?
You poor children...
It was a memory where Noah knelt before a woman much bigger than his size and older than him.
His voice was desperate as he screamed with all his strength clinging onto the long cloth of the woman's dress.
Gradually, his voice turned into a whisper.
A memory when he was younger.
That he could never forget to this day.
Talia
Uh, could you hear me?
The absent-minded Noah just came back to his senses then.
Noah
Sorry I did not quite catch that, what did you say again?
Talia
It was to start a new life.
Talia
Haa... do I really have to tell you every single detail about why I wanted to trade my eyes?
Talia
Don't get me wrong but our conversation has been dragging for too long...
Noah
You know... about the things you've told me before.
Talia
What of it? Which specific part?
Noah responded as he scratched his head.
Talia
Huh... I've been thinking that it must be my imagination but this conversation feels like it's been one-sided for a while.
Noah
I guess it kind of is.
Noah
I'm not doing this trade.
Noah turned his back on her after dropping those words. When Talia heard that, all that is left of her patience has finally evaporated.
Her goal was to get a new pair of eyes no matter what.
She took big strides and instantly closed off the distance between her and the mage.
Talia
Hey mage, what exactly is wrong with you?
Talia
Tell me so I would understand!
Talia said as he grabbed the hood of his robe.
