POV: Amy
I eyed my best friend—no longer able to bear the weight of silence. I had to confide in someone; Helen was the only person I trusted enough. The truth I harbored seemed unbearable; the need to share it overwhelmed me, despite the risk of disbelief.
"We can't talk here," I implored, rising from my seat. "Let's find somewhere more private, please."
"Alright, let's go," she agreed, and we set off walking.
Arriving at a deserted part of the hospital roof, I checked for eavesdroppers before turning to her.
"I've been hiding a huge secret for over a year," I began.
"What are you talking about?" she asked, puzzled.
"You know I was adopted as a child, right?"
"Yes, I remember you telling me," she replied.
"Well, the reality is harder than I ever imagined," I paused, inhaling deeply. "My adoptive parents saved my life. They explained everything in a letter. Reading it, my memories came flooding back."
"What do you mean?" she inquired, her confusion deepening.
"My real name is Gianna De Angelis. I'm Alessandra De Angelis's daughter," I revealed, removing my necklace to unveil my true identity. "This is who I really am. When my adoptive parents processed the adoption, they knew I was in danger and altered my appearance to protect me."
"I can't believe it!" she exclaimed, utterly astonished.
"After reading that letter, I understood who wants me dead—my real father, the bastard who murdered my mother and sisters. He first trapped us in a dark basement, then initiated a ruthless human hunt with us as the quarry."
"How did you survive?"
"I was shot in the chest and fell from a height. He probably thought the fall or the bullet had killed me, but somehow he's found out I'm alive and has begun searching for me, intending to kill me with his own hands," I said gravely, not disguising the vengeance in my eyes. "I have no doubt he'll try, but one thing is sure—I intend to avenge their deaths."
"How will you manage that? You don't have money or any resources."
"How do you think I paid for my studies?" I asked with a sly smile. "I've been working in the black market as a hitwoman. I always wondered why I was drawn to the underworld and its dealings. When I read that letter and my childhood memories resurfaced, I knew I was born into that world. Helen, that's my truth. I hope you can keep my secret," I confided before placing the necklace back on and departing, feeling a wave of relief wash over me. I continued my rounds at the hospital, soon my shift would end, and I could go home for rest.
Changed and on my way out of the hospital, I heard a noise. Before I could turn, an intense blow struck my head.
"He must hate me enough to want to see me dead, but we'll see who dies first," I mentally snarled. "You'll pay dearly for this, 'Daddy'." These were my last thoughts before succumbing to darkness.
POV: Luka
"Amy's been kidnapped," Helen blurted, and her words took me by surprise.
"Why tell me? Call the police, or someone who cares," I replied, bewildered by her declaration.
"Listen up, you may be the son of my lady, but I'm on vacation now and free to do as I please," she threatened before flashing a smile. "Plus, I have information you desperately want and need."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," I said, meeting her eyes.
"For a year, you've been searching for a woman, vanished without trace, right?"
"Yes, Helen, get to the point," I demanded, arms crossed, brows furrowed.
"I have information on the woman you're so desperate to find," she announced, causing a stir among us.
"Where is she?!" I exclaimed.
"I won't tell you anything until you help me."
"I can't believe this; you're blackmailing me. What do you want?"
"Like I said, Amy's been kidnapped."
"So what?" I asked disinterestedly.
"I need you to rescue her."
"Why is she so important?" one of my subordinates inquired.
"This conversation doesn't concern you," Helen snapped. "I want her found and rescued."
"I echo my subordinate. Why is she significant?" I pressed, noticing Helen's smile.
"She knows exactly where your wife is. If you're not going to do anything, I'll save her myself," she said, preparing to leave.
"Wait!" I called out. "If she knows where my wife is, I have to save her."
"I just need five or ten of your best men and women," Helen stipulated.
"You're shrouded in mysteries and secrets. Do you know who kidnapped her?"
"I have that information, and much more," she replied with a dark smile.
"My subordinates will follow you; Vladimir will join you as well."
"I didn't expect you to provide your best man," she noted, pleased.
"When will you depart?"
"As soon as my boss grants me leave, I'll leave immediately."
"Your boss is my mother."
"I have many bosses, but she's the true one. I'm awaiting authorization to skip work until she's rescued. By the way, Luka, congratulations on your marriage. You couldn't have chosen a better candidate for the role."
"You know my wife?" I asked, taken aback. "Do you know who she is?"
"Maybe I do, maybe I don't," she teased before exiting my hospital room.
"Who does she think she is?" Vladimir queried.
"She is the most loyal, bloodthirsty, and sadistic subordinate in the organization my mother runs. If she says jump, you ask how high. I've heard grim tales about her—only my mother is worse. I'd recommend you keep her as an ally," I advised, staring at my friend.
"Understood, sir. Meanwhile, Luka, I thought your wife was the doctor, but in reality, she's the one who knows exactly where she is."
"I won't lie, Vlad. When I saw the ring, I believed it too. I hoped I had finally found my wife, but it seems there's more searching to do," I shared, peering out the window. "Help Helen find the doctor and watch her closely. She's hiding something, and I need to know what."
"Yes, sir," he affirmed, coordinating with Helen. My strongest subordinates departed with him.
"Who could have kidnapped her, and why? She's just a doctor, unless she's not really a doctor and is hiding something beneath that warm demeanor," I pondered, recalling her smile while forming my theories.
POV: Helen
After Amy revealed her true identity, I was astounded. My best friend was the very woman I'd been searching for all along.
Ever since leaving the army, my boss had tasked me with finding someone of great importance, needed urgently. As I commenced my search and investigation, I also worked at a hospital for income.
A year passed without success, despite exhausting all resources. But then, one day, I found my friend who laid bare her truth, leaving me stunned—I had been working alongside the person I sought.
Exiting the area, I spotted Amy with a bag in hand, probably finishing her shift. Following her intending to talk and inform her that my boss was looking for her, events took a rapid turn. A black van appeared; Amy was struck on the head and bundled inside. The van sped off. I reached her fallen bag and knew I had to save her. Only one person came to mind who could help with the rescue. Rushing to Luka's room, I broke the news of Amy's kidnapping, but he seemed indifferent, likely unaware of my friend's real identity. We argued for some time until he finally agreed to help.
Leaving his room, I pulled out my phone and dialed a familiar number.
Call
"Hello," answered the voice on the other end.
"I've found her, my lady," I stated with gravity.
"Good, bring her to me."
"That's the problem—she's been kidnapped. I think I know who by. I just need to pinpoint her location, uncover it, and I'll retrieve her."
"Do it. We need her alive."
"I will find her and bring her to you, my lady."
"Success to your mission. You've done well; keep it up," the voice commended before ending the call.
End of Call
