KEVEN LARK
The next morning, I woke up with a slight ache in my left arm. I groaned, the realization hitting me hard. "How could I forget about this meeting? Ahh," I muttered to myself, scrambling to get ready for work.
As I rushed to the office, Lara followed closely. I took a moment to inquire about the other board members, and her nod indicated that everyone had already arrived. With a sense of urgency, I made my way to the meeting room.
It was during this hurried stride that I spotted Samantha standing near the door. She greeted me with a polite, "Good Morning, Mr. Lark."
I barely acknowledged her presence, my focus on the looming meeting. Throughout the meeting, an uncomfortable sensation nagged at my left arm. It was a dull ache, bothersome yet bearable. The weight of my responsibilities, coupled with the discomfort, made the meeting feel longer than it was.
Finally, the meeting adjourned, and I returned to my office. There, I found Daney, my cousin and Managing Director, wearing a worried expression.
"What's the matter?" I inquired.
Daney's response was immediate. "Our warehouse on Street Z was under attack," he informed me. "Some toxins were stolen, but I don't believe it was the Wolves."
I hummed in response, processing the information. "Take care of everything," I instructed in a low tone.
"I will," Daney replied before turning to leave. But our conversation was abruptly interrupted by a loud thud from my office.
And then, I collapsed.
DANIELLE DERY
"Ven, hey Ven, wake up," he remained unconscious. I hurried outside, seeking help. There, I saw Samantha preparing a meal for Keven, along with a course of pills. After lunch, I called her urgently. "Sam!! Ven passed out."
She rushed inside to assess the situation. "I suspect he didn't have breakfast or take his morning medication," she mentioned. I watched her as she quickly laid Keven on the couch and administered a pill, holding his nose to ensure he swallowed it. Her calm demeanour reassured me as she swiftly attended to him.
As she began tending to his wounds, I couldn't help but notice that his stitches hadn't been dressed yet. Samantha meticulously addressed this, dressing the wounds with a careful hand. An unexpected emotion welled up within me as I observed her expertise.
"Expected," she whispered with a sigh, hinting at the predictability of this situation. As she worked, someone barged into the room. It was Mrs Willson who greeted me with a cheerful "Good Morning, Mr. Dery," before turning her attention to the scene before her.
"Oh, Mrs. Willson," she acknowledged.
She inquired, "How did this happen, Miss Jones?"
she explained, "He simply passed out due to weakness and not taking his pills."
Mrs Willson appeared displeased with the explanation. "Follow me," she ordered in a very serious tone, leaving me and keven in his cabin
SAMARIA FRANCIS
I followed Mrs. Willson to my desk, feeling the weight of her stern gaze. She halted and, in a raised voice, scolded me, "Are you out of your mind, Miss Jones? Isn't it your job to ensure that Mr. Lark takes his medication and has his breakfast?"
"I-I'm sorry, Mrs. Willson," I stammered, humbling myself before her. I couldn't afford to lose this job, and I knew it.
"Your sorry won't change his condition, Miss Jones," she continued, her reprimand cutting through the air. She took a pause and added, "Mrs Lark will be very upset if she finds out about this. Miss Jones, consider resigning before you get fired."
The stern warning hung heavily in the air as Mrs Willson exited, leaving me alone with a heavy heart. She issued a final ultimatum, her voice ringing in my ears. "I want your resignation letter on my desk before Mr Lark wakes up."
In my disappointment, my eyes were drawn to another scene playing out nearby. Zia, my best friend and confidante, exchanged pleasantries with Mrs. Willson before turning her gaze toward me. As her eyes met mine, she seemed to distance herself and adopted an air of ignorance.
"Zia," I whispered her name in disbelief, but she simply greeted Mrs Willson, her response calculated. I was left hanging my head low, facing the consequences of my actions.
As I watched, both Zia and Mrs Willson approached me. Mrs. Willson addressed her with a formal tone, "Miss Parker, this is Miss Jones, and she made a grave error on her very first day."
Zia looked up at me with a feigned expression, as though she didn't know me, and introduced herself, "Cinzia Parker." She extended her hand for a handshake, and I reciprocated with an awkward smile. Her eyes seemed to convey a silent acknowledgement "I've got you, babe."
Zia proceeded to ask, "Oh, Mrs. Willson, what did she do?"
Mrs Willson explained the situation, her words carrying the weight of disappointment. "Do you know Mr. Lark passed out just because she didn't give him his pills? Mrs. Lark would be upset if she knew about this."
I couldn't help but scoff, "I'm sorry, Miss Jones, but I can't assist you. You'll have to leave the company." The implications of Mrs Willson's statement hung heavy in the air.
At that moment, Daney entered the room, his tone playful. "Wasup, Ash?"
"Mr Dery, I'm the Chief Associate Manager, not Ash," Zia responded with a serious demeanour. Upon hearing my intention to resign, she commented, "Alright, then I'd better pack my stuff and leave."
KEVEN LARK
I regained consciousness, slowly opening my eyes. I found myself in my office, staring at the ceiling. I tried to sit up, but the movement sent a sharp pain coursing through my left arm. I groaned, "Ahh."
Daney, my ever-loyal cousin, was by my side, offering support. "How are you feeling, bro?" he asked.
I attempted to sit up, and Daney assisted me into an upright position. "How long have I been sleeping?" I inquired.
"About five hours, I think," Daney replied.
My gaze then turned to my bandaged arm. "Did you dress this wound?"
Daney shook his head, "No, Sam did it."
"Sam?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued. Daney filled me in. "The assistant your mom hired, Samantha Jones."
My intrigue grew. "I'm hungry. Get something to eat, and ask Samantha to come see me."
However, Daney's response surprised me. He shook his head, indicating Samantha's absence. "She's not here."
"Why did she leave early?" I questioned further.
Daney's response was succinct. "She resigned."
My shock was evident. "She resigned on her first day?"
