The scenario she formulated might be a bit ridiculous. Nonetheless, if one compaed it with the idea of reincarnation, the former was more believable.
To prove that her conjecture was right, she had to search for evidences. Furthermore, she wanted to know her current life, which seemed more pleasant than her previous life, and so, she began her move, starting from the bedside table.
Atop the bedside table was a white phone. Remembering her parents, she thought of giving them a call but gave up the idea because of the lateness of the night. She intended not to disturbed their sleep.
The phone was smaller than the new releases of smartphone, which were becoming more difficult to hold in one hand and required the use of both hands to type efficiently. In contrast, the phone she was holding could be held easily with one hand. And in a glance, she recognized that it was an old model of smartphone. However, it did not come across as timeworn. Its black screen had no scratch on it as if it had just been purchased— good as brand new.
Curious of which company had released the phone, she examined the phone's exterior and found an inconspicuous silver shooting star logo at the back that camouflaged with the white exterior. She racked her brains for a phone brand that used a star logo but she found none.
Before the accident, she worked in a mobile company so she knew the different mobile brands, especially their company's top competitors. And with her lack of knowledge of the phone's brand, she felt incompetent as an employee of their company.
Disinterested, she tossed the phone on the bed then opened the drawer of the bedside table. She attempted to access the phone. However, it was secured by a passcode that she had no idea of. She tried the possible codes that she might think of but even the passcode that she used in her previous phone did not work. Not wanting waste time on it, she redirected her attention to something else: the drawer.
In the drawer, she found pens, flashlight, sleeping mask, sleeping pills, and magazines. All of the things found, the bottle of sleeping pills bewildered her. "Did my unhealthy sleeping habit escalate into insomnia?" She scratched her head. "Perhaps, I developed a trauma and often have nightmares about the accident."
Instead of collecting proof for her conjecture, she collected more questions about her present self and found nothing helpful so she headed to the passageway.
In the room, there was one door and a passageway. Between the two, she chose to venture first the latter as she had supposed that the former led to the living room. And she was not in a hurry to check it for private items and information would surely not lie in there.
The passageway was narrow and dark. Luckily, she found a light switch. She turned on the lights and figured out that the passageway seemed more like a corridor for there was a door in the middle of one wall and another door at the end of the way.
Choosing the nearest door, Yan Xueyue opened the door on the wall. What lied behind it was a walk-in closet, filled with cabinets on both sides. A vanity table was located on the far end of the walkway.
She checked every cabinet. Shoes, bags and clothes occupied only half of their corresponding cabinets but in the eyes of Yan Xueyue, this number was more than enough. She grabbed some pieces of clothes and inspected their tags. Reading the unfamiliar and unpronounceable brand names, she stuffed them back. "These clothes look expensive but not so trendy." She closed the cabinet door. "Perhaps, I bought them on sale."
She scanned the whole closet then her gaze fell on the vanity table. In the mirror, half of her body, shoulders to thighs, was reflected. She wore a matching set of pink sleeveless top and pair of shorts, revealing her bare shoulders, slender arms, and thighs.
Seeing her figure in the mirror, she noticed some changes on it. She became whiter and she lost some weight; her arms and thighs seemed longer and slender while the collarbone became more prominent. Then her gaze moved down to her chest. She gasped in surprise.
She bowed her head and peeked at her breasts; then she stared back at the mirror. She repeatedly made this action of changing looks down to her chest and to the mirror, unbelieving the thing before her.
Discontented with only looking, she grasped her breasts and when she sensed the plumpness in her hands, ultimately, she acknowledged that they were real. However, this realization made her more confused. She slimmed down yet her breasts did not shrink. Instead, it grew bigger, which could only mean one thing: ****** implants!
She felt her knees go weak. She held onto the table for support and sat on the chair, lost in thoughts. The shock tremendously affected her.
She did not look bad before the accident and she was satisfied with her figure. As she was afraid of pain, she never thought of undergoing plastic surgery. Also she was a filial child, who vowed to herself to treasure the appearance that her parents passed down to her.
Knowing that she failed to keep her promise, she became depressed and disappointed of herself. But in a short while, a thought emerged in her mind, 'With the accident's impact, it is possible that I got disfigured. So I had to undergo a plastic surgery and in the process, they improved my figure.'
Thinking that and agreeing that may be the case, she let out a sigh of relief that she might had not intended to deliberately alter her body.
Earlier, when she was in state of lost, she had sat sideways on the chair so her line of sight was away from the mirror but was on the cabinet. Curious of her face, she turned her head to the mirror and saw an unfamiliar face, causing her to stand up in shock.
'Was the impact that great that It ruined my whole face that's why my face had been reconstructed wholly?' she reasoned through a question.
Composing herself, she sat down properly, her eyes shut. Then, her eyelids slowly lifted and she saw her reflection in the mirror.
The person had a messy long black hair because she had not fixed it yet after she had gotten up. Running a hand through it, she fixed her hair that was in disarray; then, she pushed some locks at the back of her ears, and this movement revealed a thin oval face. The skin was milky white and flawless. When she touched her cheek, it felt soft and smooth. Her eyebrows were long and neatly shaped; and under them was a pair of peach blossom eyes that was decorated with thick long eyelashes. Looking down, she noticed that her pink pouty lips were a little dry so she wetted them using her tongue and they moistened, looking glossy. Turning her head to the side, she saw her nose, tall and straight. When she lifted her chin up, her jawline and chin appeared more defined and sharper.
Seeing that she had turned into a beauty, not that her looks were terrible before, she felt the sorrow of breaking her vow dissipated; and a contended smile surfaced on her face.
After gawking at her new face, she scanned the items on the table. Bottles of different sizes had lined up in rows. She tried some perfume until she could no longer bear the tang. She had a sharp sense of smell that sometimes put her in difficult situations. And with one spray, her nose could already be overwhelmed by almost any scent. That was why she preferred mild scented perfumes.
Putting back the bottles on their original places, she noticed a red card behind a bottle. Carefully, she picked it up. The card was folded into half; and when she opened it, English words printed in gold greeted her sight that said, 'For my beloved daughter Xue Yanyue.'
