Ch 5

I laid beside him because he didn't let me leave and even held my arm tightly.

"I just can't run away in this situation. What should I do. He's burning up." I thought. I was so concerned.

"Sam, sleep. Don't worry about me. I'm good." That was what he said in his deep scary voice next. I couldn't argue more.

I just kept quiet thinking that I'll go tell mother once he falls asleep. But the opposite happened. I fell asleep first. When i woke up nexf morning, brother wasn't home. He had left somewhere.

I was so scared that i immediately ran to mother, "Why did you let brother leave!? He was burning sick last night!" I almost screamed.

"What? He was sick?" Mother asked. She didn't sound surprised.

I nodded.

"I see." She returned while prepared break for me. She didn't say anything afterwards. It was weird. I was so confused. Why would a mother-son relationship be such complicated? I wondered.

Then, i took bath and came back to the kitchen. Mother had served me food. "Eat before it gets cold." She said, "Then I'll drop you school."

I smiled and nodded.

When i was done with breakfast and getting ready for school, i took my bag abd went outside. Mother was still inside. I was just standing outside enjoying the fresh air when i saw brother todd return home. He stopped his car in front of me. "Come, kid. I Will drop you." He said.

I was shocked that he wanted to drop me again. But mother was going to do that, "Mother is dropping me today-"

Brother sighed, "She always interferes!" He said. I couldn't understand so i just kept quiet until mother walked out too. She saw brother Todd. She kept her head down and looked at me.

"Mother, i want brother to drop me today..." I requested. She gave me a confused face.

"Why him?" She asked.

"Please!" i insisted.

"But he will-" She wasn't done yet and brother todd interrupted.

"I can drop him today." He said and looked away as if he was embarrassed to accept that he was going to drop me.

Mother looked surprised and happy at the same time.

"Yayy! See mother, he'll drop me." I said with excitement and immediately ran to brother's car and got inside.

"O-okay..." Mother didn't seem to process what just happened. She definitely didn't expect that.

I waved to her and brother drove off the car.

"So. How's school going?" Brother todd asked me while driving.

"Its good."I returned with a smile. He nodded.

After some time, we were at school.

I got out, "Bye brother." I said. I was waiting for him to leave but he didn't.

"Go inside. What are you waiting for?" He said.

"Uh...yeah." I said and turned. I was confused but i did as i was told. I went in. I thought of looking at him one last time when i reached the corridor. So i turned. I saw him driving off only then. I was shocked. "Did he wait for me until i get in safely?" That made me happy.

I was smiling through the whole day because of what brother todd did in the morning. "He was waiting for me!" I was smiling by myself thinking of that.

I was thinking it was the best day of my life. But it turned out to be the worst.
