Helena slipped out of Blake's office while his back was turned and went in search of Nicolas. Despite not knowing him, her concern for him was genuine.
Pacing the hallways, she tried doors until she found one she assumed was his, marked by a sign indicating entry was forbidden...
After three knocks with no response, she entered without hesitation.
Nicolas sat facing the window...
Without speaking, Helena stepped in. Though he didn't see who had entered, Nicolas knew it was her.
"You can't read or what? What are you doing here, nanny?" he challenged.
"Hmm...frankly, I just wanted to see if you were okay."
Still with his back to her, the boy asked, "Why did you do that if you don't know me?"
"Because once I was in the same spot as you, Nicolas. I know how bad that is...I'm not like your father...I want to be your friend."
Nicolas turned to face her with a serious look at the aspiring nanny.
"Sit down if you want."
"Thanks."
"Don't think that just because you were crazy enough to stand up to Blake for me, I'm fine with having a nanny."
"It's okay, Nicolas... I don't want you to see me that way...shall we start from the beginning? What do you say?"
"What are you talking about, nanny?"
"This...nice to meet you, Nicolas. My name is Helena." she said, extending her hand toward him, which he just watched.
"Fine, nanny. Now that you've said what you wanted and seen that I'm alive, you can go back to your chores," he retorted.
"You know, I like your room. The rebel decor...very tasteful. And look at that, the gaming screen...I bet it's Resident Evil, Fortnite, or even Free Fire...am I right?"
Nicolas cracked a half-smile...
"Well, for a start, you're not so bad."
Before leaving his room, Helena approached him, and kneeling before him, she looked into his eyes...
"Look, for this to work out for us both, I just want you to know that I won't let Mr. Blake hit you anymore...I promise..."
"Why would you do that?"
"Because that's what friends are for, and from now on, whether you want to or not, you know you can consider me a friend... And true friendship is about looking out for and defending each other."
Nicolas stared at Helena, and finally said...
"Look, thank you. Nobody's ever done that for me..."
"Done what?"
"Stood up to him..."
"So, it wasn't the first time he wanted to hit you?"
"No, Helena, he always gets angry and takes it out on me... that's why I dislike him. He's a mean man."
"Hey, don't talk like that... it's true that what he does is horrible, but deep down, he cares about you..."
"No, nanny, people who care accept you, at least they see you, and Blake only has eyes for himself and his damn job."
"What does he do, Nicolas?"
"He's a highly powerful CEO in his company."

"Oh yeah? Gloria said that to you about me? And what did you think?"
"I think she's right... Now if you could leave me alone... I need to get past level 22 in Fortnite, it's damn hard."
"Yes, Sir Nicolas...see you tomorrow..."
As she was about to leave the room, Helena opened the door and heard Nicolas say...
"Hey, nanny, you aren't giving up on me, are you?"
"Never, buddy...see you tomorrow..."
When she closed Nicolas' door, she was startled to find Mr. Blake standing in the hallway, his expression dark and stern and his words few...
"Who gave you permission to tour my house, Miss Helena?"

"What's so funny about that?"
"Get real...he barely knows you," Blake sneered.
"You know, Mr. Blake, I think you should be saying that to yourself in the mirror. Do you know him, Mr. Blake? Do you happen to know his favorite video game and what level he's on?"
Blake said nothing but gave her an astonished look.
"See? So I guess I do know him...now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to my post downstairs or I'll be fired for having prevented an assault on a child?"
He scowled and gritted his teeth, wishing he could yell at her to get out of his sight. However, he needed a nanny and she had been the last one in months to accept the real challenge. At the same time as he looked at Helena, Blake wondered how wild she might be in bed...Confused by these insane thoughts, which had never occurred to him before, he stepped aside and said before she disappeared from his view...
"One more impulsive act, rule-breaking, or doing something I don't like, and you're out, got it?"
"Yes... Mr. Blake...good night..."
She walked her petite form past him, sashayed down the stairs, and joined Gloria, who by this time was clearing the dinner table.
When Gloria saw her and had the chance to talk alone, she didn't hold back.
"My God, do you realize what you've done?"
"Yes, Gloria... I did a good deed that earned me a potential new friend..."
"I'm not talking about that. I mean standing up to Mr. Blake in front of his family."
"Oh, that? That guy's going to learn not to treat people as disposable trash, just as he seems to treat everyone around him."
"Helena, you aren't wrong to think that way, but you can't do whatever you want because at the end of the day he's your boss and can send you away at any time..."
"Gloria, I know that...but I also know he needs me, so he won't do anything. If I leave, who will take my place?"
"What about Nicolas?"
"Nicolas? He's my newest local friend..."
Gloria smiled...
