That was so embarrassing. I squeaked! I had actually squeaked! And Mase was staying at my apartment? To make sure the stitches didnt break and I didnt over work myself? No. No I had to be reading into this to far. I had to be.
We pulled into my apartment and Mase helped me out of the truck and opened my front door. When I was inside he closed the door and leaned back on the bar.
"Nice place. But I do have a question."
"Thanks. What's the question exactly?"
"Why were you in Rush's house? The place was supposed to be empty."
I swallowed. I started to say something when a thought dawned on me. Mase Smith. Smith. Oh my god! He was Jax Smith's son. He was a rock stars son!
And he was in my home and wanted to know why I was in his brother's home. What would he think when he found out I was a house cleaner? I hadn't realized that he was looking me over until he said "You clean his house. Dont you?"
I swallowed and said "Yes. I work for a cleaning agency and Rush's house was on my list. I clean every two days." I lowered my head and winced, expecting to hear him leaving. Instead a warm hand lifted my chin to meet dark brown eyes.
"I guess that explains why your appartment is so clean." His eyes twinkled as he spoke and butterflies shot in every direction in my stomach. He dropped his hand and sat down on the couch.
He was staying? What the-? "Oh um can I get you anything to drink or eat?" I asked starting towards the kitchen. Mase jumped up and lifted me into the air, bridal style, before carrying me to the couch and setting me down. He placed a hand on my bandaged thigh and said "You. Are staying. Put." His tone had deepened, to my misfortune, to a rather sexy and deeper southern drawl. Oh God I wasn't going to survive this.
Mase looked down at me, his eyes like stone. then they softened. Warmth trailed into his gaze before pain took over. "I'm sorry. I didnt mean to scare you." He said backing away. I was shaking. "No it's not that. You didnt scare me, it's just-" I got up but collapsed. Mase caught me and sat me back on the couch. my thigh was aching. I gripped Mase's shoulders and the pain intensified. He reached for my pain medication and grabbed one.
My eye twitched. There was no way I was taking that medication. I had taken them before and I absolutely hated it. Mase was a good guy and all but there was no way I was doing that. His eyes narrowed. He had realized it. From the way he had treated me lately I was certain he wouldn't force it down me. Although if he was friends with Liz, Nik, and Grant... Clever tricks were not out of the picture.
And I was right.
