The Woods

Like a broken tape, everything that happened in the asylum three days ago keeps replaying in my head. No matter how hard I tried, I can't get the things she said out of my head. Every word kept replaying in my mind over and over like they are mocking me.

And the look in her eyes... I could never forget the way she looked at me. Behind all those hatreds that she threw over me, there was a look of fear, she looked terrified, but why? Why did she look so scared of me?

I know my mom is trying to make me feel better by saying that it's just her illusions talking and that I shouldn't think too much about it. But I just couldn't shake it out of my mind, how could I?

"When will dad come back?" I ask my mom, she is pausing folding the laundry and looks up at me raising an eyebrow.

"What? Am I not good enough company for you?" she teases, resuming her activity, I roll my eyes at that.

"Oh, you figure that out," I mutter loud enough for her to hear, she glares at me playfully.

"To think that you're my favorite daughter," faking hurt she continues, "and he'll be back this afternoon." I perk up at what she says. This time she's the one who rolls her eyes, but I can see the smile on her face. I know she misses him too.

Dad went with Jared two days ago, they were going to handle some business in town so I'm left with mom in this creepy house with nothing to do since school

"Well, I'm going to take a walk for a little while," I say while standing up.

"Make sure to come before 4, your dad would be back by then," she says.

"Yeah, don't worry." Grabbing my iPod, I take a pair of my gray Nike and get out of the house with Panic At The Disco blaring in my ears.

As I walk around this quiet neighborhood, my mind wanders back to these last three months. There is something wrong with this place but I just don't know what. Ever since we moved here, it always feels like someone is watching over me. I don't even know why but it's as if something or someone is calling out to me. I just don't understand but I feel some kind of pull... to where? I don't know.

I snap out of my trance when my eyes lock into a familiar face, it's the same girl that I saw in my backyard. She looks at me with the same emotionless face. Her face breaks into a smile, it's not that friendly smile either. But a cold and almost sinister smirk. She turns around begins to walk into the woods. I don't know what possessed me but I start following her.

"Hey!" I call out to her.

She doesn't respond, nor did she turn to look at me, she just keeps walking. Passing trees after trees, with me following her like a lost puppy. I don't know how long I've been following her when I see an old house in the near distance, that girl gets into the house, I don't waste another time and run after her.

I stop by the door as fear struck my head, it makes me hesitate for a moment. My mind screams at me to turn back and just go home, but it seems that my curiosity is winning against my fear.

So, with a little hesitation, I slowly open the door and enter the house. I cough loudly as dust flying everywhere, waving my hand over my face, I try to look around as I wait for the coughing stop.

"What the hell is this place," I mutter while looking around.

I take a look at my surrounding and cringe at what I see, everything in this place is so old and worn out. The carpet is stained with something I don't even want to know. Ripped curtains hung by the windows allowing the sun peeking inside, give a little to no light into the house. There are dirty moldy plates scattered around the room and an old rocking chair beside the window, and I think mice just jump out of it, EW ... And I wouldn't even start with the smell, gosh.

"What kind of sick people would live in a place like this?" I wonder aloud.

I jump at the sound of something fall somewhere inside the house. I walk slowly to where I think the source of the voice, careful not to step into anything. I pass two doors which I assume is the bedrooms but I don't stop to take a look.

Stopping in front of an open door that leads into a small library, I was about to walk in when I hear the same noise on my left, I look over and see another door. I walk closer and open it, the old door makes a loud creaking noise as I open it. There's a stair leads to a dark basement, I hear some movement down there but can't see anything.

"Hello...?" I call out from the door.

I almost gag, this place smells like something dead and rot in there, gross. I pinch my nose and walk down, very slowly may I add.

"I know you're there, I saw you come in," I half shouting. "Can you like, come out? I just want to talk." No answer.

Looking around, I wait for my eyes to get used to the dark place. Looking down at the stairs under my feet, I almost go back and forget everything. This thing looks so old, it is like people have abandoned this place for decades, I'm not even sure if it can hold my weight.

I step down anyway and somehow I reached the bottom in one piece. It's even darker down here, the only light is provided by a broken ground window at the far side of the room, but it is still hard to see anything.

I squint my eyes to get a better look. Now that my eyes have gotten used to the dark, I can now see a little. There is a few boxes pile up in the middle of the room, not far from it, I can see a wooden chair and a creepy doll is on top of it. On the far side is a shelf full of candles and a few statue-like things that are covered in dust and all kinds of dirt. But there's a space right in the middle of the top shelf.

I walk closer to look, these part of the shelf is strangely free of dust, something was here before. I was about to walk again when I accidentally kick something, looking down and I see a wooden chest lying close to my feet. So this is what makes the sound earlier, it must have fallen off the shelf. The chest has a weird carving around it, something is written on the tops, I crouch down and take the chest in my hand to get a better look.

"Seal with blood, bound the soul, may this kept close, and never be open"

"What crazy people still believe in witchcraft" I mutter to myself.

Dropping back the chest, I look at my iPod and see it's 4.30 now.

"I can't believe I waste three hours chasing after a crazy girl" I mutter angrily

I make my way up the stair, forgetting its bad condition in my rush. As I'm running up, the old thing give up and collapse under me, I fall and my head hit something hard and I lose my consciousness.
