Episode 19

I was unsure what the plan was, but the instance I woke up, I knew something was near occurring since Mike barged into my room and said, "Get ready."

I jumped to my feet, "What's going on?"

He seemed to be in a panic, and as he buttoned his dress shirt, he turned away from me and yelled, "Just get fucking ready."

I also saw Eric sprint past my room and heard his footsteps stomp down the staircase, and I frowned in confusion. However, I immediately got ready, showering as quick as I could but leaving my hair dry, placing it into a hair bun. I dressed casually, and as I brushed my teeth, I walked out from my room to find Mike pulling William into his room. I raised an eyebrow, "What are you doing?"

"I'm hiding him."

I was shocked, and instantly taken aback as I blinked. "Hiding him?"

"Yea," Mike said with annoyance, making William crawl underneath his bed. There was still enough space for William to sit straight without needing to bend his back. I heard his mutter, "Don't come out until I let you, okay?"

"No," I yelped, advancing towards them but Mike immediately placed palms in front of me, holding me from approaching any further towards William. I crossed my arms, "You have to tell me what's going on."

"Finish brushing your teeth in my bathroom," he advised and I followed him inside, as he closed the door behind. That was the first time I actually noticed his bathroom being huge compared to mine, and not to be ungrateful but I found it unfair. However, that not being the main issue at the moment, I spat the toothpaste from my mouth and rinsed before turning to him prepared to hear what was going on. Mike sighed stressfully, pushing his fingers through his hair, "Dad is coming around."

"Wait, Mr. Hawk?"

"Yes hence why I said dad," his tone rang with annoyance as he narrowed his eyes at me, "anyways Eric and I called him this morning and told him we're not giving him the ring, and if he wanted it, he needed to get it himself. And we screamed at him that you guys aren't going anywhere and to never come back, but it was only to bait him to come here. "Except," he shook his head, "he's still pissed, and sometimes his angry side isn't too nice to see, so I don't know what or who he'll bring."

I laughed, "What, you think he'll bring a gun?" When silence answered me, and a darkness invaded Mike's gaze, my eyes widened, "He's going to bring a fucking gun?!" I shrieked, and Mike shushed me.

"You're going to scare William. Anyways, get out of my room, I have to go check downstairs." He pulled the door open, and did not listen to any of my complaints, rather focused on his duties before Mr. Hawk arrived. That was the reason Eric was sprinted back and forth around the house. When I asked him what was going on, he did not respond, and instead continued his way. When I placed my toothbrush back into my room, I headed downstairs and found my mother sitting alone at the dining table. She was dressed very formally, her makeup already done as she crossed her arms, but the uneasiness and stress on her face was evident. As she observed me walk in, she began biting her nails and sent me a weak smile.

"Mom," I said, "Are you alright?"

"I don't know," she replied with a shaky breath, "I hope he hears me."

I paused for a moment before saying, "You don't have to do this if you don't want to. Just give back the ring, I'm okay with leaving—"

"Don't you dare say that to me." Her face has sharpened as she narrowed her eyes in my direction, causing me to fall silent, "I worked hard to pull my life together after Allen, so there's no way I will leave without a fight. I thought you'd be on my side for this, I'm disappointed."

"It's not that I'm not on your side Mom, seeing you stressed like this is hurting me," I said truthfully, "You'll be fine, alright?"

My mother shrugged, but soon slowly nodded her head. It was evident the stress has not descended even a bit, as she continued to bite her nails. The table was filled with breakfast foods, and I was unsure what was the plan, but I was hoping that Mr. Hawk at least sat down and listened to what she had to say. We heard feet run down the stairs before Eric arrived to the dining room and screamed, "He's here!"

My mother gasped, her breathing falling short in her throat. Eric grabbed my sleeve, and rushed my up the staircase, just a few steps to be able to see the front. Mike raced down the staircase, and both of them stood at the front door waiting for Mr. Hawk to arrive. We waited, and waited, for what seemed like hours. Mike continuously checked his watch, Eric glanced towards Mike to simply meet his eye and be sent a comforting gaze with a short nod, as if to indicate they were going to be alright. The problem that they had, was that although Eric feared Mr. Hawk's temper, Mike didn't. However, they were scared of the weapons, since one blow at the wrong part of the body could be fatal. We could hear my mother's heavy breathing to the dining room, and when I attempted to descend from the stairs, Mike immediately sent me a look, and the manner his tense jaw sharpened, I knew he meant that it was not a good idea.

When someone began banging on the door with all their brute force, without even a minute for breathed, my heart jumped into my throat; I gulped.

Eric was startled, and was about to take a step backwards when Mike placed a palm on his back, glaring at the front door with broadened shoulder, "Don't fucking move." Eric stopped his movement and returned beside Mike, but he was trembling on his spot.

The banging fell silent for a short moment, and we all waited. I was curious as to why Mike was not opening the door, but then we heard, "Open this fucking door, now." That was Mr. Hawk's voice, but I had never heard it that deep, and intimidating. I crouched down to have more hiding space, and peaked towards the door as the banging continued much more ferocious than earlier. When he realized that nobody was going to open the door for him, Mr. Hawk roared angrily, and we heard him shuffle. I was stressing, and so was Mike's whose eyes sharpened, attempting to determine what his father was thinking of doing.

However, soon we heard a gunshot. There was no blood, but there almost were.

Mr. Hawk shot through the doorknob, and the bullet passed inside the home, and hit the wall behind Eric and Mike. It had been terribly close to hitting Eric, millimetres from his skin as it ripped off a bit of the sleeve on his sweater. Mike's head turned in shock, and Eric did not know what to do either when he noticed the fabric ripped in a line. They both also turned their heads towards the wall, and with widened eyes, they examined the hole there was. I had helped and ran a few steps up the stairs, and waited to hear more.

Mike pushed Eric to the side, enough for to make him fall to the ground, and another shot rang; it sliced through the doorknob and hit the wall exactly where Eric had been. That was when the door slowly opened, and Mike had not moved from where he was. Mr. Hawk purposely showed his gun as he placed it back on his waist belt, and marched inside the home with his boots clacking. His teeth were gritted, his hair was deranged, and veins were visible along his neck. His blood was boiling, flames roaming inside his body as he met the gaze of his son.

In a small growl, he said, "I'm home."
