Episode 9

I woke up first, and when I still felt his arms squeezing my waist, I was not sure whether to wake him up, or let him sleep. But hearing his soft snores as he clung to me, it caused me to stare at him for a few minutes, admiring his features. Mike was a very handsome man, but his behaviours were atrocious that I was never sure which one was the real him. I wonder why he insulted me so much, but maybe he said things he did not mean. Regardless of the reason, sometimes they did sting.

I sighed, sending my fingers through his hair, "Mike, you have to wake up."

He did not even open his eyes when he muffled, "I need another hour." He tightened his grip around me.

I chuckled, "Okay then let me go so I can go make some breakfast."

"You're so fucking annoying," he murmured under his breath before releasing his grip around me. I climbed off my bed, and grabbed a sweater when he said, "You could not just wait another hour? Now I can't sleep." He sat up from the bed, yawned and stretched his arms, pulling apart all the stiffened muscles. I rolled my eyes, grabbing slippers and changing my shorts into pants.

He stood from my bed, and began dragging his feet to the door. I watched him as he passed by me, without saying anything. "How about a thanks?" I asked, crossing my arms. "Thank you for taking care of me August?"

"Shut up, you're annoying." And he exited the room. I ranted a series of curse words under my breath, regretting taking care of him and allowing him to sleep in my bed. If I had known he was going to have this attitude when waking up, I would have pushed him off the bed. With a sigh, I shook my head and exited myself. I descended the stairs and found my mother and Mr. Hawk in the kitchen, chatting about nothing and everything.

"Anything planned for today?" My mother asked as I entered the kitchen.

I shook my head, "Not really—"

"What are you talking about?" Eric said, entering the kitchen behind me. I frowned and he continued, "It's welcome weekend and you're going to stay indoors?"

"I didn't know it was welcome weekend."

Mr. Hawk sighed, "They usually have a pool party at the house during this time. What are we going to do then, hun?" He turned to my mother who shrugged her shoulder.

"We could go up to your cabin for the weekend," she suggested.

He nodded his head, "That does sound like a good idea. Nobody but us, lots of hot..." he approached my mom, wrapping his arms around her waist as she giggled sheepishly, "loud...sweaty...sex—"

"Okay, too much information," I quickly said before they could start making out.

"I'm hungry," Eric grumbled, taking a seat.

"You should have told me you were going to come down for breakfast today," Mr. Hawk patted his shoulder, "I would have called in a chef."

"I'm going out for breakfast then," he murmured, standing from his seat. As he passed the entrance, a lethargic Mike observed him walk by.

"You're going out for breakfast?" he yawned, and Eric nodded. "I'll join you."

"Alyssa coming too?" Eric asked.

"Should I invite her?"

"No," he sternly replied, without any hesitation.

Mike chuckled, "I didn't know you guys hated her. I won't tell her then."

My mother smiled, "You should go with them too August. William is still sleeping, but I'll take care of him."

"That's fine, I can make myself some breakfast."

"Please, just go with them sweetheart."

"I'm broke," I said in honesty.

Mr. Hawk pointed to Mike who stared cluelessly. "He can pay for you, right son?"

"Ask Eric," he dismissed, turning around to exit the kitchen.

"Mike, please pay for August," my mother asked in her gentle voice. She knew he could not say no to her.

He turned around, groaning. "Fine, but you owe me, Mrs. Devinez."

"Mike, the first day we arrived, when I entered your room, what did you point at m—"

"Okay okay," he interrupted, "August let's go."

"The wait isn't usually this long," Eric complained about his food, "I wonder what's going on in the back."

Mike nodded, agreeing with him and I stared at my palms, in my lap. Being around Mike somewhat made me nervous, and I was not too sure what to chat about. Therefore, I sat with them, remaining quiet and avoiding their gazes.

Eric nodded towards me, "We're having a pool party today, you have a bathing suit?"

"Yes," I replied.

Mike smirked, "You have that summer body too?"

"I think so," I slowly murmured.

"So say," Eric started, "You don't have a boyfriend. None of your friends have called you ever since you've been here. You miss home by any chance?"

I shrugged, "Of course I miss home. And I was never really into the good crowd of people, so they blew me off days before I left. They saw it as a member ditching us." I mentioned, air quoting ditching.

Mike raised an eyebrow, "What did your Dad do anyways?"

I paused for moment; it was really not something I wished to talk about. "It's a long story—"

"We got time, " Mike replied.

Eric continued, "Did he cheat on your mom?"

I met both their gaze, and it did not seem that they would budge if I did not explain the full story. "If you tell me what your mother has done, I'll tell you what my father did?"

"Deal," Eric said, but when he met Mike's stern gaze, he returned to me with a frown, "No deal."

"Why not?" I urged on.

"Why don't you mind your fucking business?" Mike hissed, narrowing his eyes in my direction before cursing under his breath. He always got angry at random moments, and it was evident, by his stiffed jaw as he clenched his teeth, and the manner he shook his head, that I had gotten him mad.

I raised an eyebrow with a short chuckle, "What, did she beat the shit out of you and abuse you so bad you can't even speak about her—"

"Shut the fuck up August," he exclaimed, pushing off the accessories on the table. "Watch your fucking mouth."

"Mike." Eric attempted to calm him.

But Mike only turned his eyes towards Eric with a glare, "You too. Acting as if what Nina did was not that big of a deal. You can both go fuck yourselves." With that, he stood from his seat, pushing the table slightly and stomped towards the exit, storming out of the restaurant.

A few other customers nearby had turned their heads to stare at us, and I placed the accessories back on the table. Eric hid his face with his hands, but my first instinct was to rush after him, exiting the restaurant as well. He was holding his cell phone to his ear, calling a number.

I reached him in time. "Hey," I called out, "Mike, I'm sorry. Come back inside."

"Get the fuck away from me August." The phone finally answered and he screamed a curse word. "Hey babe, come get me. I'm at Greg's Evans," he paused for a moment then continued, "No, I don't want to wait fucking ten minutes or five minutes, or three minutes at that, get here now." And he slammed his phone shut, huffing and pacing as he pulled a cigarette from his pocket.

I placed my palm gently on his arm, "Mike, I'm sorry, okay? So please, come back inside."

"You don't know anything," he snarled, broadening his shoulders, "Anything at all. You have no idea what Nina did to us. You don't know what the fuck we been through." He pointed his finger towards me, his cigarette in that hand as well. "And just because I cuddle with you, kiss you and have sex with you, does not mean you can make a joke about something like this."

"I know, I'm really sorry—"

"You mean nothing to me, you know that?"

I closed my mouth for a moment, staring at him aggressively dragging his cigarette. Those words hurt me, but I held it all in. I watched as he grumbled under his breath, curse words flying from his mouth. "Look Mike, just come back inside," I said, but I was unable to stop my voice from quivering.

He turned to look at me, and raised an eyebrow. "What you're going to cry now?" I turned away from him, looking at his feet. "You know what? I'm done with you. No more sex, no more helping you, no more kissing you, no more talking to you, no more hanging out with you, no more telling Alyssa to stop messing with you. You're on your fucking own."

I frowned, "Why are you talking to me like this?"

"Shut the fuck up August," he screamed back, and I shut my mouth. "Don't even think of talking to me, or even looking at me. Don't mention me at all. You're dead to me."

Suddenly, a Hummer drifted in the parking lot, and I recognized Alyssa's hair within the driver's seat. She pulled her sunglasses from her face, and waved a hand towards Mike. He threw his cigarette on the ground, and squished it with his toe, before dumping his feet to her car. As he entered, he leaned forward and had a full-blown make-out session with her, and I turned away, heading back towards the restaurant. However, she called my name.

I turned around, and she waved a hand, "Do you need a ride?"

I shook my head, "I'm good, thank you."

"I wasn't going to give you one anyway." And as they began laughing, she reversed the car and drifted back unto the road.
