After passing the morgue, the family finally entered the office of an internal medicine specialist. The room was much calmer and carried the familiar scent of antiseptic.
"Sweethearts, you two sit here first, okay? Be good. Don't go anywhere, all right?" Sienna said gently. She settled Rayna and Rayden into the waiting chairs near the window, which looked directly out over the hospital's neat garden.
"Undelstood, Mommy! Don't worry. Layna will watch Eden!" Rayna replied with a wide smile.
Rayden only snorted quietly. He knew perfectly well that his sister always said things backward. He was the one usually busy keeping Rayna from running around.
Sienna stroked both children's hair lovingly before taking a seat beside Callan. They now faced the doctor, who was reviewing Callan's lab results and abdominal X-rays.
"So, Doctor? Was my husband poisoned?" Sienna asked anxiously.
The doctor smiled and adjusted his glasses. "Not poisoned, ma'am. But Mr. Elson's intestines are not in good condition. There is a significant buildup of food residue and gas, which is making his abdomen bloated. In layman's terms, his gut is irritated and inflamed. That is what triggered the severe nausea."
Callan let out a long breath, a little embarrassed that his diagnosis turned out to be digestive trouble.
Two months passed. The Elson residence now received visitors more often, especially Mr. Robertho, Cecilia's grandfather and an old friend of Victor's.
