Loud voices echoed in the hall as streams of teens wound their way to their to their homerooms. Some took their time while others rushed. Mr. Singer stood outside his room and waved his class inside. As the bell rang a few stragglers rushed in. Once he was sure that everybody who was going to show had gone inside Mr. Singer entered the classroom and shut the door behind him.
Mr. Singer
Good morning class.
The class murmured a greeting in return.
Mr. Singer turned and walked toward his desk. Once seated he looked out over the ragtag assortment of students. A long suffering with escaped him, though nobody could have heard it over the ruckus the students were making.
The bing bong of an imminent announcement sounded and some students quieted down, but not all of them did.
Mr. Singer
Let's quiet down now.
That got the students attention and silence then reigned.
Everyone listened to the announcements then breathed a collective sigh of relief when they were all done. Some students started chatting almost as son as the announcements were done, but almost immediately quieted down again when the door to the classroom started to open. All eyes turned in that direction.
