Everyone else avoided him, said he was distant, difficult, cold. But i lingered. I've seen what others didn’t—the sadness tucked beneath his silence, the storms hiding behind his eyes.

When he ignored me, i waited. When he told me to leave him alone, i returned the next day. When his words were harsh, i didn’t flinch.

Sometimes, not everyone says i will stay but they will prove it by their actions.

Thakshan tried avoiding her in every way, but shiny stayed even while ignored, said harsh words.

Still, she didn't leave him, she stayed and on one evening while returning to home from college, he couldn't take it anymore.

“Don’t you get tired?” he asked , unable to mask the bitterness in his tone.

“Of what?” she asked gently.

“Of me. Of trying.”

She smiled softly. “No. I’m not here because it’s easy. I’m here because I want to be.”

He didn’t know how to respond. But her answer… it stayed with him.

Slowly by unknowingly, There were small moments when he began to notice her presence in ways he couldn’t ignore. Like the day a couple of boys made jokes at his expense. He usually endured it in silence, but this time she stepped in. Calm, firm, unshakable—she shut them down without raising her voice.

Later, he asked quietly, “Why did you do that?”

She didn't answer first, instead She gave him a look as if the answer were obvious.

Friends. The word was foreign, almost fragile, but it warmed something inside him.
