The Love They Left Behind
Dizzy
The car rolled through the city streets, quiet except for the steady hum of the engine.
Jungkook sat in the far seat, gaze fixed on the dark skyline beyond the window. He hadn’t said a word since leaving the altar; his expression was unreadable, carved in the same quiet tension he’d worn all day.
Beside him, Taehyung sat still, hands folded neatly in his lap, eyes lowered — silent, polite, invisible.
But between them, Jungmin’s voice filled the empty air.
Jungmin
Mom ( chirped happily, clutching Taehyung’s sleeve as if he’d known him forever)
Jungmin
When we get home, can I show you my drawings? I made one with a dragon and a castle!
Jungmin
You have to see my room! It’s big, and I have all my toys lined up, and—
A quiet chuckle broke from Yoongi, seated across from them.
Yoongi
Slow down, little man, let him breathe.
Jimin
That boy doesn’t know how to stop talking when he’s excited.
Jimin let out a soft sigh, leaning back, his fingers rubbing at his temple.
Jimin
It’s adorable, but I feel like my head’s spinning. I think I just need to close my eyes for a bit
Yoongi’s expression sharpened immediately.
Jungkook turned his head at that, while driving. His voice cut low, direct.
Jungkook
When did that start?
Jimin
Don’t look at me like that. I’m fine. Just tired.
Jungkook
You didn’t eat much before the ceremony.
Jungkook
You should’ve eaten anyway(Jungkook said, tone soft but firm)
Jimin
still bossy( mummered)
Jungkook leaned back against the seat again, the conversation over as quickly as it had started.
Jungmin’s chatter filled the space again, the little boy’s joy cutting through the heavy silence, oblivious to the weight pressing down on every adult in the car.
