Chapter-4: Keep away.

"By the way, why are you wearing that?" Amira asked, raising her brows, pointing to the maid dress Rose was wearing.

"To surprise you, of course. Who do you think cooked that soup you're eating?" She said smugly, crossing her arms over her chest.

Amira just giggled at her antics.

After that, everyone sat down to eat.

She talked to her while eating.

From their talk, she came to know that Rose had already joined 'Emerson hotel' as a receptionist. In fact, it had been a week since she joined, which meant the story had begun.

Amira noted that in her mind and congratulated her.

In a few days, Rose would stumble upon Kei, who would disguise himself as a janitor… or maybe they had already met.

After dinner, they both went upstairs to her room.

"So, how are feeling now?" Rose asked, sitting beside her.

"Better. My injuries still hurt, but it's fine." she answered. "I just need to take the prescribed medicines and visit the doctor once a week."

Rose patted her back. "That's good. You don't know how worried I was."

"Oh, I know. Mom told me that you'd visit and talk to me for almost an hour every day."

"I missed you, that's why."

"Still. Talking to an unconscious person? You're crazy for that." Amira chuckled.

"You're my only best friend, Amira. I'm not crazy for that." She whined.

"Okay. Okay. I'm just teasing you." She giggled. "By the way, can I ask you something?"

"What?" Rose asked, raising her eyebrows.

"Do you like your new workplace?" she asked hesitantly.

"Yes. I'm getting used to it. Though the rules are quite strict."

"Have you… um…met anyone special?" She was curious if they had met yet.

"What do you mean?"

"Like… someone you connect with."

"Nah. Why do you ask?"

"It's nothing."

Rose gave her a weird look but shrugged it off.

As they were chatting, Rose's phone rang. Picking up, she talked to the person on the other side for a while.

"I have to go now. I'm moving into a new apartment tommorow."

"Can't you stay for a few more minutes?"

"No. I need to pack my stuff. I've to move in first thing in the morning."

"Okay then. Don't forget to send me your new address. Oh, and change out of that maid dress before you go."

Rose quickly changed the dress in the bathroom and handed it to her. "I'll text you." She said while walking out of her room. After bidding her parents and sister goodbye, she left.

Amira stared at Rose's, leaving figure through the window and sighed. Walking to her bed, she laid down with her limbs spread out.

Now, she could finally relax and think about it. It was obvious that the storyline had begun. Sure, the protagonists had not met yet. But they would...in a few days.

She rubbed her eyes, thinking about how her suicide was portrayed in the book. She could never do that since this book was her actual world, and everyone was real - not just characters in a book.

These people here were her family. She cared about them, had grown relationships with them, and shared emotions, struggles and happiness.

Truthfully, she did not understand the purpose of her death. There were many other ways to bring the protagonists together.

"Maybe the author just wrote it to shock the readers and create some dumb conflicts." She mumbled, lost deep in thought.

And the solution was quite simple - all she had to do was, not commit suicide. But that would create another problem...she would become an obstacle to the love story.

"What's the best solution?" she asked herself. "Think, Amira. Think."

She could not possibly avoid Rose. She's her best friend for god's sake. She ran her fingers through her hair. Suddenly, an idea came to her.

Her eyes widened... she could avoid the male lead...right?

Her eyes lit up. "That's right. If I just avoid him and make sure the engagement doesn't happen, everything will be alright."

She sat up and walked to her table. Bringing out her diary from a drawer, she started writing.

She scribbled the main plot points of the book. Then she wrote - "Self reminder: Keep a distance from Kei Emerson. Don't get involved in their story." and highlighted that line with red ink.

Amira smiled and clenched her fists to encourage herself. "You can do this."

She would keep an appropriate distance from him, stop the engagement from happening altogether, and this way, everyone would get their happy ending.
