Before Jake could even take a breath, the room plunged into darkness. The lights flickered once, twice, then cut out entirely. A shadow moved with impossible speed. One second he was alone; the next, a strong arm wrapped around his torso, pinning him against the wall.

Jake gasped, struggling, but the grip was iron, cold and unyielding.

Low, velvety voice whispered in his ear.

He was pulled roughly, but calculated, out of the mansion. The night air hit him like a blade as he was thrown into the back of a waiting vehicle. The doors slammed, muffling his protests, leaving only the growl of an engine and the cold press of Bastian’s presence.

Jake’s heart thundered, panic clawing at him.

Bastian’s gaze met his in the dim moonlight filtering through the tinted window. His expression was unreadable, calm, but terrifying.

Bastian interrupted smoothly, a hint of something darker curling on his lips.

Jake’s stomach twisted. He didn’t like being powerless, didn’t like the way his pulse raced not just with fear, but something darker—something drawn to the very danger he wanted to resist.

Bastian leaned closer, the intensity of his gaze pinning Jake in place.
