Upon meeting my new teammates, I was sent back to my mission with better equipment. I hadn't sensed the presence of shadows, and that worried me. How strange.
I tried to locate shadows, even though I really wanted to flee, but I was being watched. Sometimes, she actually asked me why I agreed. I walked toward the Seine River, hoping to find clues.
No one really noticed what was happening. I often wondered what their reaction would be if they realized they were in danger. Panic and chaos, a destructive mix. That was why it was mandatory to never speak of our mission or the shadows. I really didn't remember joining this special group.
How was my family? Were they looking for me? Sometimes I wondered if they really cared; maybe it was the amnesia that was causing them to have dark thoughts. But why were an archangel and the shadows calling me Nephilim? I stopped thinking about that and decided to focus on my mission.
It was dawn now that I looked closely. I quite liked the sunrise, as well as the sunset. The birds flew freely and without worries. How envious. To fly free like a bird without having to worry about what others think of you.
I walked for a couple of minutes hoping to find shadows. I heard heavy footsteps and looked behind me. A man with fairly long black hair carrying a club was behind me. The man seemed to be made of shadows, but his features were still noticeable. A shadow?
It was the strangest shadow I had seen in recent days. The man growled like a beast and attacked with his club. I narrowly dodged the blow.
The club, when it hit where I was standing, caused a large crack in the ground. One blow and it would have killed me. Being optimistic in these situations was difficult for me.
"I'm calling for your help, come here," I called this time to Noah, Chiron, Cruzadia Avramak, and Jeanne d'Arc.
When I called Jeanne, I felt a headache, a stabbing pain. Is calling four my limit? I stopped thinking about it and focused on preparing for combat.
"The normal shadows are approaching. Can you take care of that guy?"
"That guy is Samson, one of my descendants." Noah was expressionless. "No, it's not Samson. You could say the shadow is imitating him."
Shadows could imitate other people; it was quite terrifying information. Noah had initially mistaken the shadow for the real Samson.
What if the shadows imitated important people of today? I shook my head, not wanting to think about it; it would be a terrifying scenario for all of humanity.
I dodged one shadow's slash, then another. A horizontal slash finished off one, and I decapitated another shadow that was approaching from behind. Samson tried to use his club to hit Jeanne, the Pucelle d'Orléans propelled herself backward and using her flagpole hit the copy of Samson.
The shadow blocked the blow with his arm, causing the pole to bounce back. A lion attacked the shadow, biting its arm to help Jeanne get away.
"Thank you, Noah," Jeanne sighed in relief. That blow could have rendered him unconscious.
Crusadia, using her small robots, began wrapping Samson in them. With uncontrolled movements, Samson escaped several.
"Electricity," Cruzadia ordered the particles, causing a current to surge, sending an electric shock to Samson, weakening him.
The stabbing pain continued for quite some time; I had to increase my summoning capacity limit. I began defeating each shadow that tried to approach the group where my companions were fighting. The battle against this copy of Samson seemed difficult, and allowing the shadows to get close would only increase the burden.
Chiron galloped toward me and began helping me fight the shadows.
"For a copy, he's strong," Chiron said without concern. "If the civilians see us, chaos will ensue. We must have Samson chase us to the outskirts of Paris."
I nodded thoughtfully, defeating the last shadow. A horse galloped forward with a strong gallop; it took me at least several attempts to get on without difficulty.
The horse began to gallop, following the orders of Noah, who was riding an elephant next to Jeanne. Cruzadia Avramak used a nanoparticle tablet to move behind us.
"That shadow looks furious," Jeanne points out worriedly.
The shadow ran behind us, destroying mailboxes, cars, and fences in its path. The noise woke several people who didn't dare go outside, believing there was a natural disaster.
It was better for them to think about that before they left home. What a terrible destructive power. Running outside had worked, but maybe the organization now owed the French government a couple of dollars.
"Can you go faster?" Noé asks the elephant and the horse. Both animals shake their heads, tired from running so much. "I understand. Thanks anyway."
We dismounted the animals to run on our own. Where would an elephant go in this area? If it were Africa, I wouldn't be surprised, but here in Paris, it was a different story.
I hope it doesn't cause too much chaos here in the city. Noah was really a little crazy if he thought releasing an elephant in a city was a good idea.
"Free it," Noah exclaimed, saying goodbye. He was about to say something, but Chiron denied it, pointing out that the elephant was heading deeper into the forest on the outskirts of the city.
We waited for Samson to approach and entered the forest. The trees and bushes made it difficult for the shadow to approach quickly. As we crossed the forest, we drew our weapons.
"Let's go," Cruzadia began to prepare a barrier with the robots.
The shadow repeatedly hits the barrier, causing sparks. Each blow produces crack after crack, and after a few seconds it passes through the barrier as if it were fragile paper.
The shadow attacked me directly. Chiron had explained that if I died, the summons would be canceled. How clever.
I took cover behind a large rock. Noah attacked Samson with his staff, drawing his attention. He blocked a punch and grimaced as the sound of a broken bone was heard.
His arm.
Chiron galloped at speed and used his sword to try to cut off the shadow's arm. He jumped back to get away and, upon landing, slammed his club into the ground, causing a great tremor. I took advantage of his landing to jump and try to stab him in the neck.
"Close," I muttered, using my dagger to slash horizontally.
The shadow slammed its fist into the ground, causing another tremor, but this time stronger. While we were distracted trying to maintain our balance, the shadow fled.
"It's gone," I said, approaching Noah, worried. "Are you all right?"
"Don't worry, it's just a minor injury. With a night's sleep, we'll all recover." Noah moved his arm, but winced in pain as he adjusted it.
I closed my eyes, not wanting to see that. That must hurt. I looked in every direction, not wanting to see Noah adjusting his broken bone. One of the Crusadia Avramak robots displayed a hologram. It was Minato speaking.
"I have a little news. The influence of the shadows has left Paris. I've just lost track of them. Return to headquarters."
The headquarters was the high-tech blimp. The mission had been completed, but I had a bad feeling about what had happened today. I hoped my instincts were wrong for once.
