As the general led the mage forward to her room, he couldn't help but complain. "Honestly, I don't get why we need a mage that can attack."
"Me and my men do that every time and win. The mages we need are just for healing, not fighting." He huffed in irritation.
"You have an ego taller than you, boy."
"So do you, m'lady."
The woman stopped walking for that moment, glaring daggers at the general. "Did I ask for your opinion, boy?"
The general scoffed, "certainly not, but I've been trained to always speak my mind. Especially when I'm targeted."
The woman froze time around them, walking over to him, now that he couldn't move but was still conscious.
"Look, I didn't live for more than 300 years to get mocked by a little brat like you, especially one that regards me as a young noble lady."
"Why not 'Madame' or 'ma'am'? I'm way older than you'll ever be, so pay respect to your elders." With that, she then unfroze time around them, storming off before accidentally bumping into a maid.
The maid dropped her basket of unwashed sheets and immediately started panicking. Without batting an eye, Vespera teleported the maid and her basket to where she needed to be.
It was a confusing situation for the maid, but she couldn't complain as it indeed was convenient.
Vespera entered her room, shutting the door behind her as she left a raging Arthur outside in the hallway. "Ah, yes. Certainly the mage we needed, Your Majesty."
Once Vespera entered the room, she searched around, finding a white lace nightgown. Though she didn't know what it was, she still wore it, finding it convenient and pretty.
"This won't hide the scars but they're so much better than exposing all of them." She tossed the cape that the general gave her.
Only then did she realize. In actuality, only then did both of them realize the cape wasn't returned.
But Vespera ignored it for now, dressing neatly after a shower filled with the fragrance of lavenders. A soothing bath if she was going to sleep.
But she wasn't. She planned on roaming the palace grounds so she could easily teleport away in case that fool of a general or king decided to assassinate her.
Once she clothed herself in that knee length nightgown, she teleported out of her room to the palace garden with the cape in hand, looking around cautiously.
"...perhaps I should return this first." She mumbled to herself before teleporting away.
She landed outside the meeting room of the king, accidentally eavesdropping into a conversation on the other side of the door. Both voices were recognizable.
"Your Majesty, my troops and I have been serving you for many years, and yet we have to share our victory with a random mage?!" Arthur's voice rang.
The king sighed in frustration, "look. I summoned her here first to gain her trust. The neighboring kingdoms have all treated her terribly."
"Your Majesty, I would like to admit that I do not care—"
"Did I ask for your opinion, Lord Wilhelm?"
Arthur went silent before sighing. "I sincerely apologize, Your Majesty." The general said in a soft voice. The king huffed angrily before brushing it off.
"Leave for now. We'll discuss this another day."
With that, Arthur left the room, turning a corner only to meet the mage again. Vespera stared at him in silence before tossing his cape over and teleporting away.
The general was left there stun as he caught his cape. Not only that, he was worried. Did she hear the part where the king talked about her body?
