Decided to make another episode
The wind howled through the trees as Adrian carried Elias deeper into the forest, away from the smoke and danger, away from the village that had just turned into a warzone.
Elias
"You know… I can walk.”
Elias
*His voice was breathy, teasing, but his arm clung tighter around Adrian’s neck.*
Elias
*He smirked, though his legs dangled helplessly and his shirt was torn across the side, stained with red.*
Adrian
*Adrian glances down at him*
Adrian
“You talk too much.”
Elias
“And you don’t talk enough.”
The deeper they went, the colder the air became. Moonlight flickered through the dense trees, and the forest eventually opened into a narrow path leading to the base of a jagged cliff. A hidden cave mouth waited like a secret mouth carved into stone, invisible unless you were looking for it.
Elias
“Wait… we’re going in there?” *He said, not sure about this*
Adrian
*Adrian didn’t answer. He ducked low and stepped inside.*
It was dark, cool, but not damp. The walls of the cave were wide and tall, naturally formed, but the inside was… transformed.
A hearth sat in the far corner, flames glowing soft orange and gold. A woven rug covered the stone floor. There were books stacked beside a deep chair, candles melting slowly on every surface, soft furs laid out like a bed. The scent of cedar and ash filled the air.
Elias
“…Holy hell. Did you decorate?”
Adrian
*Adrian crouched low and set Elias down gently on the fur-covered bed near the fire.*
Adrian
“I don’t like sleeping in dirt.”
Elias
“So the broody vampire prince has a sense of interior design. Next you’ll be telling me you knit.” *Elias said, grinning*
Adrian’s eyes cut toward him. Cold. Steady. But there was the faintest twitch at the corner of his mouth. Not quite a smile… but close.
Elias
“…You could at least buy me dinner first.” *Elias teased.*
Adrian
“You’re still bleeding, Elias.” *Adrian said, reaching for a bandage.*
The name landed heavy in the air. Elias blinked, caught off guard.
Elias
“You remembered.” *He said surprised.*
Adrian didn’t respond. He only knelt beside him, fingers brushing his ribs as he peeled the shirt away. Blood clung to the wound where Elias had been grazed by a sword, deep, but not fatal. Still, Adrian’s hands paused for a breath too long, hovering over the curve of his waist, where the blood had dried over tanned, scarred skin.
Elias
“…Do I smell that good to you?” *He said softly*
Adrian
“Too good.” *He says quietly*
There was silence. The fire cracked. Elias watched Adrian’s eyes glow faint red as he leaned in closer, hands steady even as his fangs threatened to show.
Elias
“But you won’t bite me.” *He half whispered*
Elias
"Why not?" *Elias said, tilting his head*
Adrian
*Adrian paused and looked up at him.*
Adrian
“Because if I do… I might not stop.”
Elias’s breath hitched. The air between them thickened like smoke.
Then Adrian turned fast, like he was afraid of his own thoughts. He busied himself, wrapping the bandage tight.
Elias
“Hey…” *Elias murmurs.*
Adrian
*Adrian didn’t answer.*
Elias
“Thank you. For helping me back there.” *Elias said softly.*
Adrian said nothing, only tied the bandage tighter, almost too tight. But Elias didn’t flinch.
Elias
"I could’ve died. They wanted me dead. Or worse.”
Elias
“Why? What is it about my blood?”
There was silence. Until Adrian spoke.
Adrian
“There’s an ancient bloodline… humans born once in a thousand years. Blood like yours drives vampires into hunger they can’t control. That’s why I told you to stay away from me.”
Elias
"Well, that went well."
Adrian
*Adrian huffed a breath, almost a laugh, but without any joy.*
Elias
“So, what now? You hide me forever?” *Elias jokes.*
Elias
"...Oh." *He says surprised.*
The word hung in the air, full of uncertainty.
Adrian finally looked at him, really looked. His red eyes had dimmed now, faintly glowing red in the firelight.
Adrian
“You’re safe here. No one knows this place. Not even the other vampires.” *Adrian reassured.*
Elias
“You trust me that much?"
Adrian
“I don’t know why… but I do.”
Elias looked at him, and for the first time, didn’t joke, didn’t tease.
Elias
“You know… I’ve never been looked at like that before."
Elias
“Like I’m not just prey.”
Adrian
"You’re not. You’re more.”
It hit Elias like a punch. Heat rose to his face, and for once, the playful boy didn’t know what to say.
Elias
“…You really don’t talk enough.” *He said under his breath.*
Adrian
"You talk enough for both of us.” *Adrian said softly.*
Elias
*Elias paused, then snorted.*
They sat like that for a long time, Elias leaning back into the fur, Adrian beside him on the floor. Firelight flickered across the cave walls, dancing shadows around them. The weight of the night settled, but something else hung between them too.
Elias
*Elias shifted, turning to look down at Adrian.*
Elias
“So… what’s it like? Being a vampire.”
Adrian
*Adrian stared into the fire. Thought for a moment.*
Adrian
“And cold. Until you.” *Adrian said with a ghost of a smile.*
The words came so quiet, Elias thought he’d imagined them.
But when he looked at Adrian again, there was no joke, no tease, just honesty. Raw and exposed.
Elias
“Adrian…” *Elias said softly*
Their hands brushed. Neither pulled away.
The cave had gone very, very quiet.
And the fire kept burning.
