Blitz Protocol: Night of the Machines

Gun fire echoed through the facility as the team opened up on the Automatons. They cringed back slightly before raising their arms to try shield themselves. "Since when do they do that?" Dutch said alarmed.

"Who cares right not, just blast them!" Erika yelled, targeting the one's exposed shoulder joint. Dutch pulled out a grenade and pulled the pin. He tossed it, and it landed right next to one's foot. It exploded, bringing down the one Automaton that Erika and Hans quickly finished by shooting apart its head. Wess, Andreus and Emma fired on the last. Their rounds tore through its arms. It stumbled and groaned before continuing towards them. "Screw this." Emma said, pulling out an explosive charge and arming it. She threw it straight into the Automaton's chest. It detonated on impact, tearing the machine apart.

"They weren't acting like normal Automatons, I mean, they were actively shielding themselves." Dutch said.

"Something isn't right here, and I'm sure it isn't something of Blitzkrieg's doing." Andreus said.

"Bad news team." Erika said, pointing at the device on her arm. "Something is jamming it, we're going in blind."

"I hate to say it, but we'll never find this thing as a large group. We might need to split up." Wess said.

"I'm pretty sure that's what they do in horror movies before everyone gets killed." Emma interjected.

"We will cover more ground that way. Wess, Dutch, Emma, you three take the south side. Hans, Erika, you two with me." Andreus said. With that the team split.

Wess, Dutch and Emma entered into one of the buildings and Wess tried the lights. Nothing. "Great, anyone got a torch?" he asked. Dutch and Emma shrugged. "Great alright, stay alert and keep your eyes open." Wess said as they journeyed into the darkness.

"Eyes open? It wouldn't make a difference if they were closed. If those machines come back we'll probably hear them before seeming them." Emma said.

"Not now Emma." Wess said.

"She has a point." Dutch added.

They continued and everything grew eerily quiet. Then came what sounded like footsteps. Heavy metal footsteps. Multiple glowing red eyes rounded the corner and the team could barely make out their humanoid forms. These were smaller than the other Automatons. "Oh great, it's the T1000, and he brought friends." Dutch said sarcastically as they raise their weapons and opened fire on the approaching machines. They slowly raised up their own weapons and fired back.

"In here!" Emma yelled, kicking in a door then grabbing both Wess and Dutch and pulling them into the room. They stumbled in the dark and crashed into a desk. There was silence for a moment; then Wess spotted something in the corner and didn't hesitate to shoot it. It was only after the fire from his gun illuminated it did he figure out what it was. A vacuum cleaner. Then the machines came marching past. The group waited silently for a bit. Then, Dutch threw a grenade into the column of machines. It went off, taking down several of them. "Strike!" Wess yelled as they charged out, guns blazing and cutting the machines down one at a time.

Andreus, Hans and Erika carefully walked along the walls of the storage units, weapons raised.

"Take a look at this." Hans whispered. They looked to where he was indicating and saw multiple storage units ripped open. "I'm guessing Blitzkrieg had his automations in there for storage when this happened." Andreus whispered. Suddenly, a blast of energy flew over their heads and struck the unit, causing it to explode. The group ducked before looking up to see a mangled Automaton limping towards them. It readied to fire again, but its systems malfunctioned, causing its hand and cannon to explode. "Take it down!" Andreus yelled as they opened up. First they shot out its eyes, causing it to roar as if in pain. Then they targeted the legs. Finally, it fell and stopped moving. But as the groans, gunfire and metal on metal seized, the roar of a helicopter's blades sliced the air. A blinding light shone down on them. Then something hit the ground.

"Move!" Andreus yelled, realising what it was. The charge exploded, kicking up a lot of dirt. The force knocked the three over. As they began getting up, they saw a rope come down from the helicopter along with Mercy.

"Well look who it is. Where's the other half?" she half asked. Then she raised her weapon and fired over the team, knocking over an Automaton that was sneaking up on them. "I'd watch my back if I was you." she said.

"Drop the weapon and surrender now!" Hans yelled, raising his gun. Mercy smirked and blasted him backwards with her weapon. Andreus and Erika drew their weapons but to little use as she only did the same to them.

"Sorry to cut this short, but our little device here is needed." She said, picking up a metal sphere, glowing blue with energy, that lay at the bottom of the creator created by the charge. She placed it in a case then locked it.

"Drop it." Dutch yelled as he, Wess and Emma arrived.

"Well look who it is Wess." Emma smirked.

"Not the time." he grumbled.

"There you are. I was getting worried I'd missed you. But I must cut this short." Mercy said.

"Fat chance, we never finished our match the other day." Emma said, running at Mercy. She didn't even flinch. At the last minute she pulled out her weapon and blasted Emma near point-blank backwards into Dutch and Wess. Before any of them could react she took hold of the rope and was raised up. "Nice seeing you all. This might help! We can't have these things running loose!" She yelled over the engine. Something hit the ground and shortly after the helicopter left, went off. All the Automatons in the area suddenly went dead and collapsed.

"Everybody alright?" Andreus asked, getting up.

"Is that what it feels like to be hit by a train?" Emma asked, getting off of Wess and Dutch. Hans and Erika got up as well.

"Dammit Mercy!" Wess yelled. "She slipped away again. And I've got a bad feeling about whatever comes next."
