Lira (in Cade’s tall, heavy body) paces near the café, nearly bumping into a table. Again. She’s tried walking slower. It doesn’t help. Her legs keep going long-distance mode. Also, how do guys not overheat in hoodies?
Then— Across the street, someone waves. Awkwardly. It’s her. Her actual body. Jogging a little.

(too loudly, grinning) “Yo! Finally!”
Lira stares. Because Cade — a full grown man in her body — just bro-fisted a pigeon off the railing and then plopped onto a chair like he owns the café.

(stiffly) “Are you seriously manspreading in my body right now?”

“I don’t know how to sit any other way. This body’s not built for crossing legs.”

Lira glares. Cade smirks. They both sit across from each other. Sort of. Lira keeps knocking her knee into the table. Cade keeps flipping her hair like he’s in a shampoo ad.

(looking at his own face) “Okay. This is honestly trippy. My body looks like it hasn’t slept in days.”

“That's because I haven’t. Your body is like a walking slab of muscle and stress. Do you eat anything other than black coffee and bottled guilt?”

“Did you just insult me in my own face?”
Lira doesn’t reply. She’s too busy looking down at her — or rather, his — hands. Long fingers. Heavy wrists. None of it feels like hers. And still, she clenches them when she’s nervous. Like always.

“You do that too?”

(quietly) “I guess some things come with us. Even when the body doesn’t.”
Silence. For a second, it’s not funny anymore.

(softly) “We really swapped.”

“Yeah.”

“And we don’t know how… or for how long.”

(swallows hard) “…What if we’re stuck like this?”
A pause. He doesn’t answer. And she doesn’t push. Because neither of them wants to admit they’re scared. So instead, they hide it behind the only thing they know:

“You want half my sandwich

“You’ve been in my body for five hours and you’re already eating carbs?”

She takes the sandwich anyway. They sit there, sharing food like strangers in the same storm.
