Taehyung knelt in front of the omega, who immediately tensed at his presence. The children surrounding the omega with worry instinctively stepped behind him, intimidated by Taehyung’s aura. His imposing presence was enough to make even adults falter—so it was no surprise the children clung to Jungkook protectively.
But Taehyung paid them no mind. His entire focus was on the injured omega in front of him, his sharp eyes narrowing at Jungkook’s clenched jaw and stiff posture.

(softly) Are you okay?
Jungkook was visibly tense, his whole body coiled as Taehyung’s frame loomed near, even in a kneel. Taehyung noticed it instantly—the way the omega shrank into himself—and instinctively, he shifted back, putting space between them.

I’m sorry if I startled you. I was just looking out of the café and saw you fall… I only wanted to help.
The words felt foreign on his tongue. Apologizing. Offering help. This was a first.
Kim Taehyung, the cold-blooded mafia king who didn’t flinch while pulling a trigger, who never paused for consequences—was now apologizing to someone. Kneeling. Reaching out with care he never knew he had.
The omega glanced at him cautiously. When he spoke, his voice was soft and gentle, but carried the slightest tremble—as if the words had to fight past a wall of fear.

Taehyung’s jaw tightened. He looked at the omega for a few long moments, something unreadable flickering in his eyes before he nodded and rose to his feet with practiced grace.

Jungkook’s gaze dropped to his bleeding knee, then flicked up to the café, and finally to Taehyung. There was a moment of hesitation. A silent war between something unknown.
After a few seconds, he shook his head.

Thank you for the offer… but it’s just a small scrape.
He pushed himself up with a wince that didn’t go unnoticed. Taehyung’s fingers twitched—he nearly reached out. Every cell in his body screamed to lift the omega into his arms, to stop him from hurting himself any further. But he didn’t move.
He simply stood there, frozen, watching as Jungkook got to his feet and turned away. The omega gently kissed the children on their foreheads, murmuring soft words that made them smile through their worry, then began walking in the opposite direction.
And for the first time in his life, Taehyung felt something completely unfamiliar curl in his chest.
He had faced bullets, betrayal, and blood without ever flinching. But watching the omega walk away from him—wounded and yet strong, distant yet heartbreakingly gentle—left him shaken.
A few moments later, Taehyung stepped back into the café, his expression unreadable, but his usual swagger seemed a little off. He sank into the chair across from Namjoon and Seokjin, who had arrived shortly before and witnessed the entire scene unfold from the window.
Namjoon raised a brow, a teasing glint in his eye as he leaned forward dramatically and sang in a playful, sing-song voice:

Seokjin burst out laughing at his mate’s antics, shaking his head fondly as Namjoon grinned proudly at his own nonsense.
Taehyung groaned, slumping slightly in his seat with a sigh that was too heavy to be anything but troubled.

Seokjin wheezed with laughter and playfully smacked Namjoon’s arm.

Taehyung shot them both with a sharp glare that could’ve made grown men tremble—except these two were used to his tantrums.

He ran a hand through his hair, visibly agitated.

The table fell quiet for a moment. Then, Namjoon and Seokjin exchanged a soft, knowing glance—one that Taehyung didn’t miss. And they spoke together, voices warm with shared memory.
