Chapter 2
She called out to the younger Itoshi.
Y/n
Wanna go out and get something to drink?
Rin and (Y/n) shared a sibling-like bond. Rin always thought of her as an older sister. Over the years, they’d made countless unforgettable memories together.
Y/n
How’s football practice?
Rin
It’s going well. I think I perfected my dribbling skills. What about you? How’s it being captain of cheerleading?
Y/n
Stressful, plus, I’m at the top of the pyramid, which adds more pressure. I have to stay balanced.
They reached the nearby coffee shop and stepped inside.
Cashier
Hello! What can I get you today?
Rin
I’d like an iced tea and (f/d), please.
He ordered for both of them.
Rin and (Y/n) sat down at a small table as they waited.
Rin
The key to removing stress is believing in yourself... and taking deep breaths.
Y/n
(smiling) Yeah, I’ll do that. Thanks, Rin.
As the duo’s drinks finally arrived, (Y/n)’s eyes sparkled at the size of her cup.
She took a sip and practically melted into the flavor.
Rin chuckled at her reaction.
Rin
You sure do love that drink.
He took a calm sip of his iced tea.
Rin
You know, there’s a new girl in school.
Rin
Yup. But she gives off bad vibes.
Y/n
Well, don’t judge a book by its cover.
Rin
But sometimes you gotta judge a book by its cover. Remember Oliver Aiku? Your best friend didn’t stay alert and got cheated on. On the other hand, you noticed something was off and tried to warn her.
Y/n
Aiku is a special case! He did give off bad vibes.
Rin
Then you’ve got to trust me on this new girl.
Y/n
(sighing) I’ll be the one to judge.
Rin mumbled an "okay" under his breath, just as his phone began to ring. He answered the call.
Rin
Hello?— Mhm... I’m with her right now, and yeah, she’s okay... Maybe she has it on silent, I didn’t hear it ring.— Okay, bye.
Rin
(as if reading her mind) It was Sae.
Rin
He wanted to make sure you were okay, you did fall hard during practice today.
Rin tried to suppress his laughter.
On the other hand, (Y/n) was already laughing, the memory playing clearly in her mind.
It was yet another ordinary school day, and (Y/n) let out a sigh as she walked down the hallway.
She came running toward the (h/c)-haired girl, excitement all over her face.
Akari
Haven’t you heard? Shiketsu High is coming to practice here… HERE!
Before she could even finish, Akari nodded with wide eyes.
Y/n
He won’t do anything, don’t worry.
Rin
(cutting in suddenly) And I promise that I’ll beat Aiku, Akari.
Y/n
(laughing) Where did you come from?
Principle
(over the speakers) All students, please head to the field, as you will all be observing the practice match. As part of a physical education assignment, each of you will receive a sheet of paper to write down the skills used by the players.
Akari
(nudging her) Come on, let’s go.
(Y/n) and Akari made their way to the field with the rest of the students. Both girls stood on the sidelines, pens in hand and papers ready.
They watched the match unfold, the players moving quickly and precisely across the field.
While Akari carefully noted the different football techniques, (Y/n) found herself distracted, her eyes locked on Sae.
His dribbling, his passes, his sharp focus, it was all she could pay attention to.
As the match came to an end, Sae looked toward the sidelines.
His gaze found (Y/n), and he smiled softly before giving her a small wave.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Flustered, she quickly looked away and down at her paper, forcing herself to focus as she jotted down the remaining skills.
Akari
I’m gonna go hand in my paper. You coming?
Y/n
I’ll be at my locker, I need to get something. Can you hand mine in for me?
Akari nodded, took (Y/n)’s assignment, and headed off.
(Y/n) made her way to her locker, grabbing what she needed. As she shut the locker door, she suddenly noticed someone standing beside her, someone she really didn’t want to see.
Y/n
(coldly) It’s L/n to you.
Akiu
(chuckling) Always an attitude.
Y/n
Just spit out what you want already.
Akiu
(smirking) Fine. I want you to convince Akari to be with me again.
Y/n
(in disbelief) Keep dreaming. You already told her you didn’t love her, so what’s the point?
Akiu
I realized my mistakes, okay? I was an idiot. So help out, will ya?
Y/n
No. She wants nothing to do with you, and I refuse.
Suddenly, before she could react, Aiku shoved (Y/n) back into the locker, slamming the door beside her head.
Akiu
(voice low and threatening) If you won’t help me… I’ll make your life a living hell.
