S+ Ranker! The King of Death
2
Even with the stench of blood and ash clinging to the air, something shimmered beneath the shattered spine of a fallen beast.
Savier June
💭 ~woah... A mana stone...
Savier’s eyes darted left and right.
The hunters were distracted, showing off their kill count and flirting with the healers.
Savier June
💭No one’s watching... just for a second...
He reached down and carefully pried the glowing shard from the crevice. It pulsed faintly—green, like deep forest light. A Level 2 mana stone.

Savier June
...Green... That’s rare in a C-class dungeon.
A piece like this could feed him for a month.
Maybe even pay off some of his debt.
But if any hunter caught him keeping it—
Savier June
~Glancing around~
Savier June
...No one's looking
He slid the stone into a small cloth pouch, then tucked it into a nook behind a cracked column near the cave wall.
His fingers brushed old, mossy carvings beneath the surface.
Strange symbols, glowing faintly in the dark...
Savier June
💭 I’ll come back for it… Tonight. After clearance ends.

Hunter 1 (calling out):
Oi! Janitor boy! We’re not paying you to daydream!
Savier June
~Snapping back~
As the team packed up and retreated, Savier lingered for just a moment longer, casting one last look at the nook—unaware that the faint green glow had stirred something deeper within the cave wall.
Abandoned Entrance to Dungeon
The dungeon gates had closed after the hunters left, but Savier knew a ventilation tunnel from his earlier shifts.
He squeezed through it under the moonlight, his heart pounding with every step.
Savier June
I just need the stone...
Savier June
Grab it and go...
Savier June
No one gets hurt.
The darkness greeted him like an old friend.
He slid back to the cracked pillar.
The pouch was still there.
Savier June
Yes… Got you...
But the moment his fingers curled around the pouch—
A section of the wall gave way beneath his feet.
He tumbled down, the world spinning around him, until he landed hard in a hidden chamber below. Dust. Silence. A cold deeper than any winter wind.
Savier June
Ugh… That hurt like hell...
When he opened his eyes, he saw it: a stone altar.
On it lay a book bound in dark leather, etched in crimson symbols that seemed to writhe. The temperature dropped. His breath fogged.
And the voice whispered—not in his ears, but in his soul.

Child of Dust… Shall you claim the power to command Death?
Savier June
...What... is this?
Dust settled slowly in the air like ash. Savier stood in the hidden chamber, eyes locked on the eerie book on the altar.
But something primal screamed in his mind:
Savier June
Nope. No, no, no. This is bad. This is cursed-level bad.
He backed away, heart hammering in his chest.
Savier June
Where’s the tunnel?
Savier June
Where’s the exit?!
He scrambled along the stone walls, hands dragging against ancient carvings.
No sign of the path he fell through!!!
Savier June
I’m trapped—hell, I’m gonna die down here—!
He spun and collided with something solid. Cold. Massive.
A statue loomed before him—seven feet tall, carved of obsidian-like stone, shaped like a battle-worn General. A sword longer than Savier’s body rested in its hands.
Crimson rubies embedded in the eyes.
Savier June
(whispering):
What… is this...?
He reached out without thinking, fingertips brushing the statue’s chest—just to steady himself.
The moment his skin touched the cold stone—
The statue’s eyes blazed red, and the sword lifted in one slow, deliberate motion.
A low grinding groan echoed as the arm raised—and swung straight at Savier’s head.
He rolled just in time, the blade carving a trench in the stone floor where he’d been standing.
Savier June
~Scrambling up~
Savier June
It’s alive?! That thing’s alive!?
He grabbed a loose stone chunk and threw it. It bounced harmlessly off the statue’s armor.
Savier June
This is insane!
Savier June
This isn’t a trial, this is execution!
The statue advanced. Slow, precise. Death in motion.
Savier June
💭I can’t fight this—I have no weapon, no strength, no powers—!
He dodged another swing by inches, the wind pressure alone knocking him to the ground. Blood trickled from a scrape on his shoulder.
Savier June
I don’t even know why I’m here!
□□□
Only those who face Death may wield it.
The altar behind him flared with eerie black light.
And then the statue moved again—this time faster.
Savier June
I don’t want to die!!
His foot slipped—and his hand slammed down on the cursed book on the altar.
A black pulse surged out like a shockwave.
Statue was freezing mid-strike
...
The red eyes dimmed. The blade halted inches from Savier’s neck.

Savier collapsed to his knees, shaking. The chamber fell still. But something had changed.
Inside him, he could feel it.
A heartbeat that wasn’t his.
Savier June
...What... have I done?
