(thought for a moment, then got out of the car)
She tried to get the burger stuffed toy.
She maneuvered the claw carefully, focused like it was an exam. The claw lowered… gripped the burger plush… then dropped it at the last second.

(Jaw tensed) You’ve got to be kidding me
Two more tries. Then, finally—
The burger plush dropped into the prize chute.

(Reached down, pulling it out, staring at it for a second)
She returned to her car and drove home

(Sitting on the couch, petting Amara the cat, sketchpad open on her lap)
The door clicked open. She didn’t look up

Amara sniffs the pig plush, then lays a paw on it protectively.

Elira sat at her desk, law book open but barely read. Her fingers tapped absently against her pen. Her mind wasn’t on the case summaries. It was back downstairs—on a dumb burger plus
She closed the book with a quiet thud, leaned back in her chair, and stared at the ceilin
Meanwhile — in the shared living room
She glanced at the stairs as if expecting Elira to come back down. She didn’t.
Instead, Serene flipped to a new page in her sketchpad… and started sketching the burger plush
But the lines came easily. Clean. Focuse
Maybe because it was the first thing that didn’t look at her like she was the daughter of a monster
A few minutes passed. She stopped sketching.

She stared at the half-finished drawing, then added a note at the bottom corner.
Claw machine rage — 2 wins.
Elira sat at her desk again, this time scrolling through her phone. Her thumb paused on a trending pos

She stood, left the room, and walked down the hall.
