Chapter 5: Hypocrite

...Enjoy!...

No..no..no, it couldn't be.

"That man can not possibly be the Alpha I would be bearing a child for," I muttered, my mind racing with a plethora of thoughts, in desperate attempts to solve this puzzle.

Compared to the man that purchased me at Avery hall, this Alpha was much younger, much more handsome and far more blunt.

Though the similarities between them-alluring deep blue eyes framed by long eyelashes, slim high-bridged noses and diamond shaped faces-were clear, there was a distinct attribute to the man I met in the kitchen.

It was disgust, pure disgust.

While the man's eyes at Avery hall were tinged with fascination, this man's eyes had a hint of contempt to them, unrefined and frightening.

His gaze lingered on me, ferocious, as if attempting to burn through my head.

"Are you out of your mind?" The question dripped out of his mouth, his tone cutting through the quiet midnight air like a knife.

The words seemed to hold a deeper meaning. More than a question birthed by curiosity, they held amusement and aversion.

"How dare you!" That was what it sounded to me.

It was as though he were questioning my actions, the audacity I had to ever cross paths with him.

He spoke like I had planned this encounter, like a scheming omega wanting to bring an alpha-him-to bed.

It could not possibly be. This Alpha was far too disgusted by my existence.

It was evident that It would take a whole lot of pleading to get him to even tolerate my presence.

Was he the purchaser's relative or his son?!

The question remained unanswered, circling in my head, despite the hours I spent fervently thinking.

It was when the sky started to brighten that I finally drifted off to sleep.

Hours later, I was awoken by Marie's knocks on my bedroom door.

Without hesitation, I slid off the bed and dashed into the bathroom to freshen up.

Within minutes, I was already descending the stairs into the living room.

Tossing aside the unanswered question in my head from last night, a new thought took the throne.

It was the thought of the meal I would be having for breakfast, that is, if I would ever be permitted to eat breakfast.

I almost drooled thinking about the sumptuous chicken meat I had devoured during dinner.

I raced down the tiled staircases, my eyes widened with anticipation.

Just then, as though the world had conspired to get rid of my appetite, the man from last night was also seated at the dining table.

My heart thumped as I slowly approached the table, my steps quiet.

Subconsciously, my body and mind prepared themselves for his contempt-filled gaze and blunt words.

"G...good morning," I greeted, but got no reply.

He merely sat, his undivided attention on his meal and his laptop, sparing no glance at me.

I could not seat; I dared not take a seat. I simply stood and awaited instructions.

As I waited, my lustful eyes could not help but travel to him.

His tan skin glistened, almost golden, as the rays from the morning sun touched him.

His jet-black hair was slicked back, with precision, a style that perfectly complemented his composed demeanor.

He moved gracefully, his hands handling the cutleries with unmatched elegance.

A pair of glasses rested majestically on the bridge of his nose, the frames reflecting the light emitting from the phone in his hand.

I gawked at him, my eyes assessing every movement, every manner, with the intention to learn something new about him.

And then I found one! The man hated vegetables, carrots to be exact.

He fiddled with the meal, carefully picking out the diced carrots with a spoon.

I watched as he did, my confusion unhidden.

I wondered why he had not told Marie about his dislike for carrots.

Minutes later, Marie emerged from the kitchen. She wiped her hand as she walked towards me, a puzzled expression on her face.

"Are you through with your meal?" Marie asked, her Spanish accent thick and her tone deep.

"N... no, I was waiting...."

Before I could finish my sentence, the Alpha stood to his feet and slammed his spoon on the mahogany table.

He faced me, his rage-filled eyes locked onto mine and his jaw locked.

"You're such a hypocrite!" The words hit me like a blow and I felt a vein in my heart rupture.

With that, he stormed out of the house, working into a black coat.

"Flynn?" Marie called, her tone edged with bewilderment.

"What happened?" Marie directed to me, her curious eyes fixated on me.

"I...I don't know. I greeted and h..he did not reply. I waited. I th...thought i needed his permission," the words crawled out of my throat in stutters.

My eyes grew hazy with unshed tears and I watched as Marie's once alerted expression softened.

A smile formed on her lips, one that showed understanding, almost motherly.

"It's fine," she assured and gestured me to sit.

I settled into the chair, my breath uneven and my heart heavy with guilt.

I was unaware of how my actions had looked like to Flynn. Like a clueless idiot, I had made him uncomfortable and had driven a wedge between us.

Even with the racing thoughts in my head and the immense guilt I was feeling, my appetite remained.

I munched, savouring every bite, with my overwhelming worries melting away.

The meal was a delicious mix of vegetables and minced meat, with a glass of orange juice.

Marie watched as I ate, her eyes twinkling with something I could not quite comprehend.

It was nostalgic in a way.
