They spit on him, and some even slap him on his head or pushes him down. And they collectively went away from him
If he was an 8-year-old he would've cried out nonstop

After a short while, he stood up and went home which was right around the corner
Lants might look up to his father as both a role model and a source of support. His father, though he may be physically absent, always makes sure to check in on Lants in ways that feel personal—whether through letters, calls, or sending small meaningful gifts. When he’s home, he takes every opportunity to make up for lost time, not just as a provider, but as a father who cares deeply.
