Selene Maristelle doesn’t trust easily. And she especially doesn’t trust powerful men with unreadable smirks and sharp eyes. But when Lucian Vale makes an offer, walking away might not be so simple.
Selene Maristelle
(crossing her arms) I don’t recall agreeing to meet you.
Lucian Vale
(amused) You didn’t. But fate is persistent, isn’t it?
Selene Maristelle
(flatly) Fate had nothing to do with this.
Lucian Vale
(leaning in slightly) And yet, here you are.
Selene exhales slowly, forcing herself to ignore the pull of his presence. The way he speaks—like he already knows she’ll stay. She hates it.
Selene Maristelle
If this is your way of flirting, you need to try harder.
Lucian Vale
(chuckles) Who said I was flirting?
She glares, turning to leave—but his next words stop her cold.
Lucian Vale
I have a job offer for you.
Selene Maristelle
(pausing) …What?
Lucian Vale
(calmly) I don’t like repeating myself.
Her fingers twitch. She doesn’t know whether she wants to punch him or demand an explanation.
Selene Maristelle
(narrowing her eyes) I have two jobs already. I don’t need another. And I never asked you to find me one.
Lucian Vale
(tilting his head) This one pays more.
Lucian Vale
I feel like you'll do it better than anyone else that's why I'm suggesting it to you
Selene doesn’t take bait easily. But something about the way he says it—like he already knows she’ll be interested—sets her on edge.
What does a man like him want from her?
And more importantly… why does he look at her like he already owns her answer?
Selene Maristelle
(coldly) I don’t work for men like you.
Lucian Vale
(smirking) Bold of you to assume you know what kind of man I am.
She doesn’t.
But something tells her she’s about to find out.
And she might not like the answer.
