Yeah, but… it’s our first one, isn’t it? I’ve never danced with anyone before.
James
Same here. So, what do we do now?
(She laughs softly)
Lily
I guess we just... follow the music?
(He nods, stepping closer)
James
Okay, I’ll try not to step on your feet.
Lily
I think we’ll be fine. Just—don’t let me fall, okay?
James
I won’t.
(The music starts, soft and slow, and they awkwardly shuffle a few steps, still unsure of each other’s movements.
Lily
This feels a little surreal. Like, I’ve always dreamed about dancing like this.
James
Really? I guess I didn’t know you were into dancing.
(She blushes)
Lily
Well, not really. I just—always thought it’d be nice, you know?
Lily
To dance with someone who actually... means something to me.
James
You mean like me?
Lily
Yeah.
(James smiles softly)
James
I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. I just didn’t know if you felt the same.
Lily
I do. I really do.
(He leans in a little closer, his voice barely a whisper)
James
So… this isn’t just a dance then, is it?
Lily
No. It’s not.
(They continue to sway together, the world outside disappearing as they lose themselves in the moment, the music, and the connection that’s slowly becoming something more.)
