I didn't cheat, I just had superior speed.

(Emma rolls her eyes)

Lily

Whatever you say, fast guy. You were always so competitive.

(Liam laughs)

James

It wasn't about winning, it was about being first. You know, for the bragging rights.

Lily

Yeah, right. You just didn't like losing.

James

Maybe I didn't want to lose you.

(Emma rises an eyebrow)

Lily

Lose me? What do you mean?

James

Well, I mean, I always wanted to be first in line for everything, especially when it came to you.

(Emma blushes)

Lily

What are you saying?

James

I guess I'm saying that... I think I've always liked you.

(Emma nervously laughs)

Lily

What? Like, as a friend, right?

James

No, not just as a friend. I've always cared about you more than that, but I never knew how to say it.

Lily

I don't know... we've been friends for so long. What if it ruins everything?

James

I don't think it would. Maybe it would just make things... better.

Lily

But what if it changes things? What if we stop having fun, stop laughing like we used to?

James

I don't think it would. We're still us, right? The same two kids who could spend hours swinging and laughing at the silliest things.

(Emma nods slowly)

Lily

Yeah, I guess that's true. But... what if I like you too? What if I've always liked you the same way?

James

You do?

(Emma smiles shyly)

Lily

Yeah, I think I have for a while. I've just been too afraid to admit it.

James

So... what now?

Lily

Maybe we take things slow. Like we always have, but... maybe with a little more.

James

I think I can handle that. So, you want to race to the swings again?

(Emma laughs)

Lily

Only if you promise not to cheat this time.

James

I'll be good, I promise. But this time, I'm going to win.

Lily

We'll see about that.




