Not just because of the uncomfortable bed in this stupid foreign palace. Not just because she barely got any sleep after last night’s confrontation.
But because the first thing on her mind when she wakes up is him.
His infuriating smirk. His unreadable golden eyes. The way he stood too close last night, like he was challenging her.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
[groaning, shoving a pillow over her face] I hate him. I hate him. I hate him.
A sharp knock at the door.
Helena Astoria (fl bff)
You have breakfast with your beloved fiancé in twenty minutes. Get up before I drag you.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
[muffled] Let me sleep. I refuse to eat in his presence.
Helena Astoria (fl bff)
Fine, but if you starve to death, I’m putting ‘died dramatically to spite her fiancé’ on your gravestone.
Ugh. Isla hates that Helena is right.
She drags herself out of bed, already bracing for whatever fresh torment Adrian has planned for her today.

[Scene: Private Dining Room – The Breakfast Battle]
When Isla enters, he’s already there.
Sitting at the grand but empty table. A cup of tea in his hand. The picture of calm, effortless arrogance.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
[gritted teeth, fake smile] What a joy it is to see you this morning, darling.
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
[not looking up] Mmm.
She stomps over, sits down across from him, and aggressively pours herself tea as if that will somehow make her point.
She refuses to look at him. He refuses to speak first.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
[huffing] Why are you so quiet?
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
[calmly sipping his tea] Why are you so loud?
Isla nearly smashes her cup.
Helena, sitting nearby with front-row seats to the disaster, presses a hand over her mouth to hide her amusement.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
I am not loud.
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
[tilting his head] Then why are you yelling?
Oh, she’s going to kill him.
Helena Astoria (fl bff)
[cheerfully, to break the tension] Lovely weather today, isn’t it?
Both Isla and Adrian turn to glare at her.
Helena Astoria (fl bff)
Alright, I’ll just... drink my tea and pretend I’m somewhere else.
Adrian finally sets his cup down and looks at Isla properly.
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
You were staring at me.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
Excuse me?
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
Just now. You were staring.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
[offended] I would rather gouge my eyes out.
Adrian smirks, as if she just confirmed something for him.
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
[muttering] Interesting.
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
[narrowing her eyes] Stop doing that.
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
Doing what?
Isla Rosewood (princess/fl)
Acting like you know something I don’t.
Adrian just takes another slow sip of tea.
Adrian Elivara ( Crown prince/mc)
But I do.
Because she knows Adrian is hiding something.
She doesn’t know what. She doesn’t know why. But she can feel it, just beneath the surface.
And it makes her hate him even more.
