The hall was thick with tension after Jungkook’s loud rejection. The matchmaker’s face turned bright red, almost as red as the tassels dangling from her headdress. Her hands trembled as she pointed a jeweled finger right at Jungkook’s nose.

“You—! You ungrateful little brat!” she spat furiously. “Then who exactly do you think you’ll marry, huh? You’re already eighteen! Eighteen! In the Kim Dynasty, that’s nearly an old maid!”

Xiao Jungkook

Jungkook lazily leaned back, resting his cheek on his palm, eyes half-lidded and utterly unimpressed.

“Oh? And what business is it of yours whether I marry or not?” he replied with a mocking tilt of his head, his voice dripping with playful arrogance.

“Whether I marry, stay single, or elope with a street performer, it has nothing to do with you, you old crow.”

“You—You dare—!” The matchmaker’s mouth fell open in shock.

But Jungkook wasn’t finished. “And also,” he continued, waving his hand dramatically like a spoiled young master, “there’s no need for you to bring your shitty proposals here every other day. Do you think this Xiao residence is some sort of matchmaking market?”

The entire hall gasped. Madam Xiao’s jaw dropped. Steward Liu nearly fainted on the spot. Even Uncle Xiao, who had survived years of Madam Xiao’s temper, almost choked on his tea.

“You… You just called my proposals shitty?!” the matchmaker shrieked, nearly shaking with rage.

“Do you know how many couples in this dynasty owe their happiness to my arrangements? Without me, half the city wouldn’t even exist! You dare insult me?!”

Jungkook gave an exaggerated yawn and patted Baobao gently. “Mn, yes. Your proposals are shitty. Absolutely unbearable.” He grinned wickedly.

Baobao twitched his ears innocently, as if approving his master’s declaration.

The matchmaker let out a furious shriek loud enough to shake the roof. “Fine! Fine! You ungrateful little devil! When you find yourself old and alone, don’t come crawling back to me begging for a match! I won’t even give you a broomstick to marry!”

She stormed out, stomping so hard the floorboards seemed to tremble under her steps. The door slammed behind her with a loud BANG.

Xiao Yunlan ( Jungkook aunt )

Madam Xiao groaned, pressing her temples, her expression darkening by the second. “This child......."

Xiao Zhiwei ( Jungkook uncle )

Uncle Xiao let out a long, tired sigh, muttering, “We won’t even need ancestors’ curses at this rate.”

Still completely unfazed, Jungkook turned to a nearby maid and waved his hand lazily. “You. Yes, you. Go shut that door tightly, will you? I don’t want her bad luck seeping back inside.”

The maid scrambled to obey, quickly bolting the door. Jungkook leaned back once more, his voice dripping with dramatic flair.

“Honestly,” he huffed, pouting as he stroked Baobao’s soft fur, “this whole dynasty is obsessed with marriage. Hmph. They’ll see—I’ll live just fine without their silly matches.”
