The First Hunt
Nibash had spent the past hour pacing in his dimly lit bedroom, his mind a chaotic mess.
The bond. The blood oath. Vikki’s words echoed in his skull, each one sinking deeper into his skin like an inescapable curse.
Vikki
I’ve been starving for centuries… and you’re the only thing that can satisfy me.
A vampire. An ancient one, no less. And somehow, they were connected? It made no sense.
A knock on his door snapped him out of his thoughts.
He knew who it was before even opening it.
With a sigh, he yanked the door open.
Vikki leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, looking effortlessly composed—annoyingly so. His dark, silky hair fell over his sharp eyes, and the dim hallway light cast shadows along his strong jawline.
Nibash hated how unfairly good he looked.
Nibash
Did you come to lurk outside my door like some kind of creep?
Vikki
If I were just a creep, you’d be dead by now.
Vikki stepped inside without waiting for permission, brushing past Nibash as if he owned the place.
Nibash
I didn’t say you could come in.
Vikki
You didn’t say I couldn’t
Nibash rolled his eyes but shut the door.
Vikki turned to face him, expression unreadable.
Nibash’s stomach flipped.
Vikki
Not in the way you’re thinking, little one.
Nibash
I told you not to call me that
Vikki’s lips twitched in amusement.
Vikki
And yet, I continue.
Nibash
Whatever. Just get to the point.
Vikki’s smirk faded slightly, his crimson gaze darkening.
Vikki
You’re coming with me.
Vikki took a slow step forward.
Nibash felt his throat dry up.
Nibash
No one’s stopping you.
Vikki let out a low chuckle.
Vikki gave him a pointed look.
It took Nibash a second to realize.
Vikki
Do you really think I can just drink from anyone now? Not after tasting your scent?
Nibash took a step back, suddenly very aware of how close Vikki had gotten.
Nibash
So, what? You expect me to just—
Vikki
I won’t drink from you
Nibash didn’t like the way he said yet.
Nibash
So what do you want?
Vikki’s gaze held his, unwavering.
Vikki
The way I hunt. The way I survive.
Everything inside him screamed no. He wanted nothing to do with any of this. He wanted to go back to his normal life, his normal world, where things like vampires and blood oaths didn’t exist.
But something about Vikki’s stare—something ancient, something lonely—made him pause.
Vikki was silent for a moment. Then—
Vikki
Because I don’t want you to fear me
The words were so unexpected, so honest, that for a second, he forgot how to speak.
Vikki didn’t wait for an answer. Instead, he turned towards the door.
Then, against his better judgment… he followed.
