Before Damian could say anything, the lady pushed what she had in her hands into Damian’s arms. He was stunned, and before he could react, the figure ran off. As the hood fell from her head, Damian caught a glimpse of her blonde hair.
"Wait, that’s her!" he muttered, turning his attention to his arms.
A baby.
He stood there frozen, unsure of how to process what had just happened. The situation was so sudden and fast, he could barely react. "What... what do I do?" he mumbled, looking down at the young toddler sleeping peacefully. His heart raced, and he could feel his hands trembling.
That’s when he noticed the small note tucked into the baby’s blanket. With shaky hands, he opened it. The message was simple: "Take care of her, I can't."
He looked down again, studying the small face. The baby’s cheeks were round and soft, her tiny hands curled into fists. Damian sighed, his mind clouded with confusion. "Should I take her to the police?" he thought aloud.
But then he remembered the blonde-haired woman. The girl he’d seen at the bar.
“So, this baby is…” His voice trailed off as he stared at her.
His thoughts were spinning. The responsible part of him screamed to get help, to do the logical thing. But as he looked at her, she felt so fragile, so innocent. "I… I can’t just leave her here," he whispered.
Flashback ends
Noah stared at Damian, his expression a mix of disbelief and frustration. “So you’re telling me you knocked someone up, and now there’s a baby, and you don’t even know her name?”
Damian winced. “I know, okay? I know I screwed up. But I can’t change what happened, Noah. All I know is… she’s my family now. I can’t just give her away.”
Noah sighed deeply, rubbing his temples. “Look, I wasn’t suggesting that. I’m just… worried, Damian. This is a huge responsibility. What are you planning to do?”
“I… I don’t know yet,” Damian admitted, his voice quieter now.
“Well,” Noah started, his tone softer, “you should probably let your grandmother know. You know she’d want to help.”
The room went silent.
“I’ll let her know when it’s the right time,” Damian said firmly.
Noah’s gaze softened. He knew Damian well enough to understand how hard this was for him. Underneath the frustration and bad decisions, Damian was a good guy. He just needed some guidance.
Standing up, Noah crossed the room and stopped in front of Damian. “Until you figure things out, I’ll help you,” he said plainly.
Damian looked up at him, his eyes wide. “You will?”
“Yes. So stop pouting like a kid and—” Before Noah could finish, Damian shot up and wrapped his arms around him, holding him tightly.
“Thank you,” Damian said, his voice trembling slightly.
Noah froze for a moment, caught off guard by the sudden gesture. But then he patted Damian’s back awkwardly. “Yeah, yeah, don’t get all emotional on me now. I’m just helping the baby.”
Damian chuckled, pulling away with a grin. For the first time in days, he felt a bit of relief.
