ch 3
The following week passed quickly, each day blending into the next as the students of the campus began settling into routines. Arianna, despite the whirlwind of activities, couldn’t stop thinking about Ethan. She couldn’t explain why, but something about their brief encounters had stirred something inside her.
sienna gray [fl bff]
*Sienna leaned across the table in the library, tapping her pen against her notebook.* “Ari, you’ve got that look again.”
Arianna Lauren ( fl )
*Arianna glanced up, giving her a half-smile.* “What look?”
sienna gray [fl bff]
“The one you get when you’re pretending something doesn’t matter, but it does.”
Arianna Lauren ( fl )
*Rolled her eyes,*🙄 but her heart skipped a beat. “It’s nothing.”
cris Dawson [fl bff]
*raised an eyebrow from across the library table, overhearing the conversation. He leaned in, grinning.* “Don’t lie to Sienna, Ari. I’ve seen the way you’ve been looking at him.”
Arianna Lauren ( fl )
*Froze*. “Him”—she knew exactly who Chris meant.
cris Dawson [fl bff]
*Leaning back in his chair* “You know, if you actually talked to him, I think you two could get along.”
Arianna Lauren ( fl )
*Arianna’s breath hitched at the mention of Ethan*. “Stop it. We don’t even talk.”
cris Dawson [fl bff]
*Snorted.* “Right. Sure. He’s only been stalking you for days now.”
Arianna glared at him, but inside, she couldn’t help but wonder if he was right. Why did Ethan keep showing up when she least expected it?
Ethan sat in the same library, his eyes occasionally darting over to where Arianna was sitting with Chris and Sienna. He couldn’t help himself. There was something magnetic about her, and the way she tried so hard to act uninterested only intrigued him more.
What’s her deal?
He glanced at Ryan, who raised an eyebrow at him.
Ryan Scott [ml bff]
😏 “You’ve been looking over there for the past ten minutes. Is she really that interesting?”
Ethan knight [ml]
*Shrugging* “Maybe.”
Arianna felt a sudden weight on her shoulders. She glanced over her shoulder, almost as if she could feel Ethan’s gaze. To her surprise, he was staring directly at her. Her heart raced.
She quickly turned back to her friends, pretending it didn’t bother her.
Author POV
Later that afternoon, Arianna’s phone buzzed again. A message from her mom, yet again.
Evelyn Lauren [fl mom]
Don’t forget to call me. We need to talk about Thanksgiving.📲
Arianna sighed and placed her phone face down on the table. The pressure was always there, like an invisible weight she couldn’t shake.
Her parents expected her to be perfect. To have it all together. But she didn’t. Not even close.
She felt the familiar ache in her chest—the longing for something more, something real.
Ethan closed his laptop, his thoughts lingering on the girl who didn’t seem to care about him at all.
She’s different.
