The night air was heavy with the scent of rain-soaked asphalt as Taehyung and Lisa moved swiftly through the shadowed alleyways of Seoul. They had abandoned the compromised safe house hours ago, their path illuminated only by fleeting streetlights and the occasional flash of distant lightning.
Taehyung led the way, his sharp instincts guiding them through the labyrinth of the city’s underbelly. Lisa followed closely, her heart pounding not just from the danger but from the lingering heat of their earlier moment. Every glance at him stirred a mix of longing and frustration, the intensity of their connection refusing to fade.
Their silence was broken when Taehyung suddenly stopped, his body tensing.
“What is it?” Lisa whispered, gripping the gun at her side.
“We’re not alone,” he murmured, his voice low but firm.
Before Lisa could react, a figure stepped out of the shadows, their movements fluid and deliberate. The stranger was dressed in black from head to toe, a hood obscuring most of their face. Only their piercing green eyes were visible, glinting with an unsettling mix of amusement and menace.
“Taehyung,” the figure said, their voice smooth and velvety, tinged with a faint accent Lisa couldn’t place. “You’ve been busy.”
Taehyung’s jaw tightened, his gun raised and unwavering. “You shouldn’t be here.”
The stranger chuckled, the sound as cold and sharp as a blade. “And yet, here I am.” Their gaze shifted to Lisa, who instinctively straightened, meeting their penetrating stare. “You must be the infamous Lisa. The one who’s got our boy here all tangled up.”
Lisa bristled at the stranger’s tone. “Who the hell are you?”
The figure pulled back their hood, revealing a striking face framed by short, jet-black hair. Their features were sharp, almost ethereal, with a beauty that felt otherworldly.
“Call me Raven,” they said, their lips curving into a sly smile.
Lisa glanced at Taehyung, whose expression had darkened. “You know them?”
“She’s… complicated,” Taehyung said through gritted teeth, his eyes never leaving Raven.
“‘She’? Interesting choice of words,” Raven teased, stepping closer. “You didn’t think you could do this alone, did you, Taehyung? You always did underestimate the scale of the game.”
Lisa’s eyes narrowed. “Why are you here? Are you with Aegis?”
Raven’s smile widened, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Aegis? No. But let’s just say our goals might align—for now.”
Lisa didn’t trust her, and the tension in the air only grew thicker as Raven turned her attention back to Taehyung.
“You’ve been reckless,” Raven said, her tone shifting to something almost scolding. “Dragging her into this mess, drawing so much attention. Do you even know what you’re up against?”
“I know enough,” Taehyung shot back, his voice cold.
Raven sighed, shaking her head. “Still as stubborn as ever. Fine. I’m here to help, whether you like it or not.”
Lisa couldn’t help but notice the way Raven’s gaze lingered on Taehyung, a flicker of something unspoken passing between them. It wasn’t jealousy she felt—at least, not entirely. It was more a sense of unease, as if Raven’s presence threatened to unbalance the fragile connection she and Taehyung had built.
“Why should we trust you?” Lisa asked, stepping forward.
Raven’s eyes softened, a hint of amusement in her expression. “You shouldn’t. But you don’t have much of a choice, do you?”
Before Lisa could reply, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the alleyway.
“They’ve found us,” Taehyung said, his voice laced with frustration.
Raven smirked, drawing two sleek knives from her belt. “Looks like we’ll have to save the introductions for later.”
The next moments were a whirlwind of chaos. Masked assailants poured into the alley, their guns blazing. Taehyung moved with deadly precision, his every shot finding its mark. Lisa held her ground, her aim steady as she took down two attackers.
But it was Raven who stole the show. She moved like a phantom, her knives slicing through the air with terrifying speed and accuracy. Every movement was calculated, almost graceful, as if she were dancing through the chaos.
Lisa couldn’t help but be impressed—and slightly unnerved.
When the last attacker fell, silence returned to the alley, broken only by the distant wail of sirens.
“Well,” Raven said, wiping the blood from her blades. “That was fun.”
Taehyung glared at her. “This isn’t a game.”
Raven’s expression sobered, and for a moment, Lisa thought she saw a flicker of something vulnerable in her eyes. But it was gone as quickly as it appeared.
“No,” Raven said quietly. “It’s not.”
She turned to Lisa, her green eyes unreadable. “You’re tougher than I expected. I can see why he likes you.”
Lisa stiffened, unsure whether to take it as a compliment or an insult.
“We need to move,” Taehyung said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
As they made their way through the city’s darkened streets, Lisa couldn’t shake the feeling that Raven’s arrival had changed everything.
Who was she, really? And what secrets was she hiding?
One thing was certain: the game they were playing had just become far more dangerous.
