chapter four

Javier knocked on the door with his usual poker face. Wow, in this point in time, I would really like it if they would smile at me, but whatever.

“Commander Butch is waiting for you on the ground floor area,” he announced.

“Good evening to you, too, Javier,” I said flatly. “Lead the way.”

He quietly walk ahead of me. Javier, Harrison Javier, is one of the people I know that hates interacting. If he could just stay as far away from the people, he would. But would anyone believe me if I said that this same Javier was once bubbly and all smiles? Probably not.

It has been 4 years since that battle happened, but it’s not my place to tell his story. I still feel sorry for what happened back then, we all do. I wanted to console him but I think that’s not what he needs.

When we arrived at the ground floor area, Javier nodded at me and made his way back to the quarters. Would’ve been nice if he wave at me.

“That kid,” Commander Bitch started, “he’s still cold as ever.”

I rolled my eyes at what he said. “Well, he has all the rights to act that way considering what had happened to him. By all means, it will be a huge miracle for him to be his usual self again.”

He scoffed, “he’s being a pussy. What happened 4 years ago was to be expected—”

“Shut your mouth, Santillian– that is if you still want to see another day,” I warned him. “You, of all people, know how it broke that poor guy’s heart. You, yourself, knows who to blame.”

He just clenched his jaw and glared at me.

“What?” I asked. “Trust me, I would love to kill you right here, right now, if it wasn’t for the protocol. I can use my position however I want, and you can’t do anything about it.” I tapped his shoulder and made my way to the vehicle.

I can see from the inside how he’s balling his hands into fist, probably calming himself down.

I may be part of his platoon and he’s the Commander, but that doesn’t mean he has a hold on me. He knows how big the differences there are in our positions.

We arrived at the base located near the Southern border, total opposite of my post. What a drag. If it’s not that important, I wouldn’t have come. But unfortunately, it is very important.

The commencement of the attack that will happen three days from now is important for everyone. We now know that these wolves are some shape-shifters, known as Werewolves. They are humans with superhuman powers which allows them to turn themselves into gigantic wolves, 10x than the average wolves.

We got an intel from the Southern base that some of their personnels are acting suspicious, especially the newcomers from the East.

The Northern, Western, and Southern borders think that the East is in cahoots with a pack of Werewolves called Tribe of the Crescent Moon. This tribe is known in all parts of Asia, they are not trying to keep their existence a secret, if anything, they wanted to be known. The only symbol from which you can differentiate these beings from human is the white crescent moon tattoo, which usually located on their wrists.

The personnel lead us the way to the conference room, and from the glass window, I saw some unfamiliar faces. Must be some visitors they have.

As soon as we entered the room, we both gave our salutes and proceed to our assigned seats. Two particular sets of eyes landed on me, watching my every move. Here we go again.

A tall man with blonde hair rose from his seat and walk my way. He stopped behind me and cleared his throat, so I stood up as a respect.

“Brigadier General, Iris Mourn. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Colonel Regulius Afiver from the East.” He has his hand extended, so I also extend mine and shook hands with him.

“The pleasure is all mine, Colonel Afiver.”

As we were getting acquainted, I didn’t notice a brunette woman standing behind him, eyeing me up and down like a hawk.

I gave her a small smile. “Yes? May I know what’s got you looking at me like that?”

She rolled her eyes. Rude. “I’m Adelajda Castel-Afiver, Regulius’ ma—wife.”

Was she about to say ‘Mate?’ “Oh, I see,” I said while nodding at her as an acknowledgement. “Nice to meet you, too, Mrs. Afiver.”

People from the East are weird. Like really weird.
