chapter three

That was the last thing I remembered. When I opened my eyes, I was inside my room again, wrapped in my blanket. It’s as if nothing had happened. I was confused for days.

My mom kept asking why I was sleeping outside the doorstep, which always made me think if what happened was just a dream. I only ever answered them ‘I don’t know’. I mean, I really don’t know. I’m confused as hell. As to this day, I am still wondering if everything was real or not. The lady said that we might meet again, but when? I’m already twenty-three years old, that was 11 years ago. Is my memory of it accurate or was I just dreaming then?

“Iris, there you are.”

I was broke out of my trance when I heard Lily’s voice behind me.

“Yea. What’s up?”

“Commander Bitch is asking for you in his office. I’ll guard the border with Cara for now, she’s on her way here. She just had to stop by some few tents to check on the medical team,” she explained.

I rolled my eyes at the thought of going to that person’s office. “Sure, I’ll be right back after.”

She nodded. “Hurry along.”

I just sighed and turned my back on her, making my way towards the vehicle. It takes almost an hour to get to the base, Jesus. Why must I suffer? He can just reach me through phone, goodness.

——

When I went out the vehicle, some soldier look at me like I committed a grave sin against them. Man, if you would, I would gladly pluck your eyeballs out. I don’t have time to entertain those look in your eyes, Commander Bitch pisses me off more than you guys.

It didn’t take long enough for me to arrive in front of his office. I knocked three times, indicating that a person from his platoon is at the door.

“Come in.”

I opened the door and lo and behold, Commander Bitch. He’s not old, nor he is young. He’s in his 30s. He’s not attractive, he’s not ugly, just in the middle. But he broke my scale for being annoying. HE IS FUCKING STUPID.

“Iris Mourn reporting for duty, sir!” I saluted.

“Yes, Mourn. I would like to have you join me in a meeting I’m having later twenty-two hundred.” (22:00/10:00PM)

That made me confused as hell. “If I may ask, sir, why must I accompany you and not Javier?”

I mean, Javier always accompany him to every of his meetings. It’s just new that he’s taking me instead.

He rose a brow at me. “Because I might need your advice on this one. It’s about the commencement of the attack on 12th of March at nineteen hundred.” (19:00/07:00PM)

I stayed quiet which made him continue what he’s saying.

“You’re a tactician, Mourn. You are the Beta’s daughter, that is why I want you to join me in this meeting. We need your ideas in this.”

A beta is a position in the government, the second-in-command. It is the second-most highest position there is in the government after Alpha. If it’s the common government positions, Alpha would be the President, Beta as Vice President, Gamma as Legislatives, and Delta as the Judiciary. It’s the same as the higher ups in a pack of wolves. The Alpha hates werewolves, yet copied their ranking system. Hypocrite.

My father hold the Beta position. If position matters, I wouldn’t listen to Commander Bitch at all. But I, for one, don’t give a fuck about positions but I hold pride on my position in the Army as the Tactician, the brain.

I sighed at what he said. “I understand, sir. I’ll wait for your call.”

“Excellent. I’ll have Javier get you from your room. You can go now,” he said, dismissing me.

I closed the door shut behind me when I got out, and leaned against it.

God, I wanna go home to mom’s embrace. This is exhausting.
