Episode 18
Nina and Aubrey were invited by their neighbor Jim to fish.
Their neighbor stared at Aubrey.
Neighbor Jim
I’m Jim by the way.
He reached out to shake Aubrey’s hand.
He responded while shaking Jim’s hand.
Aubrey Kung
Do you know how to fish?
He asked Nina who nodded.
Neighbor Jim
She’s a natural.
The three of them moved away from each other, waiting for fish to take their bait.
Neighbor Jim
I’m glad Nina’s no longer alone.
Neighbor Jim
Take care of that kid.
Jim nodded his head and Nina grinned.
Aubrey Kung
How’d you two meet each other?
Neighbor Jim
I was on my way to my market and I asked her to walk with me.
Neighbor Jim
She seemed to be occupied with worries at that time.
Aubrey Kung
You shouldn’t trust people easily Nina.
Neighbor Jim
I absolutely agree.
Nina Sze
I figured I could outrun him.
According to Nina, Jim comes by and check on her every three months. He was also the one who taught her to take care of the chickens.
Nina Sze
We’ll be going back to the city after this month ends, Jim.
Nina Sze
We’ll be coming here on the weekends though.
Neighbor Jim
Are you two married?
Neighbor Jim
You may get away with it here, but with your status in the city, you two should know better.
Aubrey Kung
It seems you know about our identities.
Neighbor Jim
The Kung family owned that home and they had two sons, Arthur and Aubrey.
Nina Sze
We only met each other about more than 2 months ago.
Neighbor Jim
You’ll get hurt again, kid.
Neighbor Jim
People talk to ruin other people because of jealousy.
Neighbor Jim
Despite doing it themselves, you’ll be viewed negatively in this so called improper relationship.
Aubrey Kung
I’ll marry her then.
Aubrey Kung
What’s your answer Nina?
Nina Sze
If things don’t work out?
Aubrey Kung
Don’t think I’ll let you go that easily.
It had a double meaning. It was a threat yet it was sweet.
Nina’s cheeks reddened at his sweet smile.
