Bound By Circumstance: The Mafia's Innocent Bride
Unknown Feelings
Welcome back lovely readers 😄
After taking in some fresh air and speaking with the doctor about her grandparents' well-being, Emma made her way back to the room where they were admitted. As she entered, she noticed an elegant and beautiful older lady smiling warmly at her grandparents. Beside the older woman, Luca sat with a blank, poker face.
Emma Smith (FL)
(nervously) Hello! 👋
Fl Grandma
(excitedly) Oh dear, look who’s here! This is Nonna, my dear friend, and her grandson Luca.
Emma Smith (FL)
(forcing a smile) Yes, we’ve met
Nonna Maria Moretti
(smiling warmly) It’s lovely to finally meet you, Emma. Your grandparents have told me so much about you.
Emma Smith (FL)
(glancing at Luca) It’s nice to meet you too, grandma Nonna. I’ve heard a lot about you as well.
Luca Moretti (ML)
(coldly) Seems we keep running into each other, don’t we?❄️
Fl Grandma
(oblivious to the tension) Isn’t it wonderful? Luca has been such a help to us, Emma. You should have seen how he handled everything after the accident.
Emma Smith (FL)
(feeling guilty) Yes, I’ve heard. I owe Luca an apology for earlier.
Nonna Maria Moretti
(raising an eyebrow) Oh? What happened?
Emma Smith (FL)
(sighing) I, uh, mistook Luca for someone else and… I kind of attacked him.
Fl Grandma
(shocked) Emma! Why on earth would you do that?
Emma Smith (FL)
(embarrassed) I was just so worried about you both. I acted without thinking.
Nonna Maria Moretti
(laughing softly) Well, it seems Luca has that effect on people. But I’m sure you didn’t mean any harm.
Luca Moretti (ML)
(still cold) ❄️🥶
Nonna Maria Moretti
(changing the subject) Now, let’s not dwell on that. We’re all here together, and that’s what matters. Emma, tell us more about your life in New York.
Emma Smith (FL)
(grateful for the change) Well, it’s been busy, but I love my job. I work as a pediatric nurse, and every day is a new adventure.
As Emma shared stories about her work and life in New York, the atmosphere in the room gradually lightened
As Emma talked about her life in New York, Luca sat in the chair, his expression a blank mask. To anyone else, he might have seemed uninterested or aloof, but
Luca found himself unable to take his eyes off Emma. There was something about her that drew him in, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on.
Her presence stirred emotions in him that he had long thought buried, or perhaps never even realized existed.
Luca Moretti (ML)
*Who is this woman? *
Luca thought, his gaze fixed on Emma as she animatedly recounted a story about her job.
Luca Moretti (ML)
*Why does she affect me this way?*
He had always prided himself on his control, his ability to keep his emotions in check. In his line of work, any sign of weakness could be fatal. Yet, here he was, feeling his heart beat faster every time Emma smiled or laughed. It was unnerving, and he didn’t like it.
Luca Moretti (ML)
*She’s just a girl* (he tried to tell himself) *A pretty face, nothing more*
But deep down, he knew that wasn’t true. There was a light in Emma, a warmth that seemed to cut through the cold, hard exterior he had built around himself.
Luca Moretti (ML)
*This is ridiculous* (he thought, shifting uncomfortably in his seat)
Luca Moretti (ML)
*I don’t have time for these distractions. *
But no matter how much he tried to convince himself, he couldn’t deny the truth. Emma was doing things to his heart that he had never experienced before.
He watched as she interacted with her grandparents, her concern and love for them evident in every gesture. It reminded him of a time before his world became so dark and complicated, a time when he still believed in love and family.
Luca Moretti (ML)
*Why does she make me feel like this? (he wondered, frustration bubbling up inside him).
Luca Moretti (ML)
*I don’t need this. I don’t want this.*
But even as he thought it, he knew it was a lie. A part of him, a small, fragile part, longed for the warmth and connection that Emma seemed to offer so effortlessly
But one thing was clear: Emma was changing something inside him, awakening feelings he hadn’t known he was capable of. And that terrified him.
Luca Moretti (ML)
*I need to get this out of this* (he resolved silently, tearing his gaze away from Emma and focusing on the wall). *Before it’s too late*
Grandma Maria and Nonna exchanged knowing glances, their eyes twinkling with mischievous glints. They watched Luca’s furtive glances and Emma’s animated storytelling, sensing the undercurrent of unspoken feelings. With subtle smiles, they shared a silent understanding. Their hearts warmed at the possibility of love sparking amidst the chaos.
