Bound By Circumstance: The Mafia's Innocent Bride
Like or Love
Welcome back lovely readers
Emma Smith (FL)
(Chuckle) Like and love is different
Alex (hotel staff)
How? (confused)
Emma Smith (FL)
Imagine you go to a place filled with your favorite flowers. You like them a lot. What would you do?
Alex (hotel staff)
Hmm 🤔 what will I do? Simple, I would pluck one and take it with me.
Emma Smith (FL)
So, if you like a flower, you would pluck it to keep it with you. Are you sure? (lift her eyebrows)
Alex (hotel staff)
(nodded) Yeah
Emma Smith (FL)
Okay, but what if instead of liking that flower, you love that flower?
Alex (hotel staff)
(thinking and confused)
Emma Smith (FL)
(chuckles) Alex, if you love the flower, you wouldn't pluck it. Instead, you would take care of it. You would give it proper food and pamper it with love
Alex (hotel staff)
(suprised)
Emma Smith (FL)
Just imagine, if you pluck a flower you like, how many days do you think it will stay fresh? At first, you might try to protect it, but eventually, it will wither. (smile)
Alex (hotel staff)
(nodding and listening)
Emma Smith (FL)
But the flower you love, which you nurture with care, will gradually grow. It will bloom and even produce seeds, giving you more flowers. The same rule applies to human relationships. Now you know the difference between like and love.
Alex (hotel staff)
(nodding slowly) That makes sense. I never thought of it that way. So, you’re saying that if I truly love Ben, I should support him and care for him, even if it means letting him go?
Emma Smith (FL)
Exactly. Love is about wanting the best for someone, even if it means they aren’t with you in the way you want. It’s about their happiness, not just your own.
Alex (hotel staff)
(sighs) It’s hard, though. I feel like I’m losing something important if I don’t try to make him mine.
Emma Smith (FL)
I understand. It’s natural to feel that way. But holding onto someone who doesn’t feel the same can cause more pain in the long run. By letting him go, you’re allowing yourself to heal and eventually find someone who loves you back. (smile warmly)
Alex (hotel staff)
(Smiling faintly) You’re right, Emma. It’s going to be tough, but I need to be honest with him and myself. Thank you for helping me see things differently.
Emma Smith (FL)
(smiling warmly) Anytime, Alex. Just remember, you deserve someone who loves you just as much as you love them. And who knows, maybe being honest with Ben will bring you closer in a different way.
Alex (hotel staff)
(nodded with a bright smile and left)
After speaking with Alex, Emma felt a sense of peace. She said goodbye to him and made her way home, the cool night air providing a refreshing contrast to the warmth of the bistro.
Once she arrived at her apartment, she took a long, warm shower, allowing the water to wash away the day's stress. She changed into her favorite comfortable clothes and prepared to settle into bed.
As she lay down, ready to drift off to sleep, her phone rang. The unfamiliar number on the screen made her hesitate for a moment before answering.
Emma Smith (FL)
Hello, this is Emma (voice tinged with curiosity and a bit of apprehension)
Dr. Romano
Good evening, Miss Emma. This is Dr. Romano from Santa Maria Hospital in Rome, Italy. I'm calling to inform you that your grandparents were involved in an accident earlier today.
Emma Smith (FL)
(Emma's heart skipped a beat) Oh my God, are they okay? What happened?
Dr. Romano
They are both safe and currently under observation. They sustained some minor injuries, but nothing life-threatening. We just wanted to inform you as their closest relative listed.
Emma Smith (FL)
(Emma let out a sigh of relief, though the worry still lingered) Thank you so much for letting me know. Can I speak to them?
Dr. Romano
Unfortunately, they are both resting at the moment. It would be best for them to get some sleep tonight. You can call in the morning to check on them.
Emma Smith (FL)
(Emma nodded, even though the doctor couldn't see her) Okay, I understand. Thank you for taking care of them. I'll call back tomorrow.
Dr. Romano
You're welcome, Miss Emma. Have a good night.
Emma hung up, her mind racing. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep now. She sat up in bed, hugging her knees to her chest as she tried to process the news.
Emma Smith (FL)
Why? Why are you trying to take them? (tears rolling down)
Her grandparents were the only family she had left, and the thought of anything happening to them was unbearable.
She decided to call the hospital again in the morning, but in the meantime, she needed to do something to calm herself down. She made herself a cup of chamomile tea and sat by the window, watching the city lights twinkle in the night.
The next morning, Emma called the hospital as soon as she woke up. This time, a nurse answered.
Hospital staff
Santa Maria Hospital, how may I assist you?
Emma Smith (FL)
Hi, this is Emma. I received a call last night about my grandparents being in an accident. Can I speak to them now?
Hospital staff
One moment, please (the nurse said, putting her on hold)
Emma Smith (FL)
(nervous and scared)
Hospital staff
(After a few minutes, the nurse returned. ) I'm sorry, but they are still resting. The doctor will be making his rounds shortly. Can I take a message for them?
Emma Smith (FL)
(Emma's worry spiked again) Can you please let them know that I called and that I'll call back later? I just want to make sure they know I'm thinking about them
Hospital staff
Of course, Miss Emma. I'll make sure they get your message. Is there anything else I can do for you?
Emma Smith (FL)
No, thank you. I'll call back later ( Emma said, feeling a bit helpless)
Emma didn't wait for the next call; she booked a ticket to Italy immediately. It took a few hours from New York to Italy, and the journey felt like an eternity as she anxiously anticipated reuniting with her grandparents.
When she finally landed in Rome, Emma quickly gathered her luggage and made her way to the taxi stand. She gave the driver the address of Santa Maria Hospital, her mind racing with thoughts of her grandparents.
As the taxi navigated the bustling streets of Rome, Emma tried to take in the beauty of the city, but her worry overshadowed any appreciation for the sights. She couldn't shake the image of her grandparents lying in hospital beds.
When she arrived at the hospital, Emma hurried inside, her heart pounding. She approached the reception desk.
Emma Smith (FL)
(Her voice trembling slightly) Hello, my name is Emma. My grandparents were admitted here after an accident. Can you tell me where to find them?
Hospital staff
(The receptionist checked the records and nodded) Yes, Miss Emma. Your grandparents are in room 304. Take the elevator to the third floor and follow the signs.
Emma thanked her and rushed to the elevator. As she ascended to the third floor, her anxiety grew. She followed the signs to room 304 and paused outside the door, taking a deep breath before entering
Emma Smith (FL)
(took a deep breath and opened the door)
