Solar Eclipse [A TsukiHina Fan Fiction]
Two Versus Two
Daichi cracked his knuckles as he continued.
Karasuno responded with a weary "Yes!" before proceeding to dive one by one on the wooden floor.
After finishing their drills, Hinata stretched his forearms as to try and relieve the soreness in his body.
He didn't get that much sleep the night before, and they've been doing drills and laps since they started early in the morning.
It discouraged Hinata, but he knew that Karasuno still had a long way to improve.
He was confident about that.
Hinata chugged the water in his bottle and looked at Kageyama.
Hinata raised a brow with a dissatisfied glare. They have always fought over little things like this.
Well, mostly because of Kageyama's names for Hinata.
Kageyama
Someone's staring.
Kageyama looked scared. But Hinata couldn't really take his face seriously.
Hinata
What are you talking about, Kageyama?
Hinata's eyes squinted as he looked at Kageyama. Kageyama's expression was something Hinata couldn't understand.
Kageyama's eyes were wide open and his lips were in a shape that hasn't even been discovered yet. Probably.
Kageyama's voice cracked.
He jerked his head backwards in a way that attempted to be subtle. But Kageyama's obvious jitters made it impossible.
Hinata peered past Kageyama to find out who he was pointing to.
Who could be staring so hard that even Kageyama got scared?
Hinata saw Kuroo, shining brightly beside someone.
Someone who happen to be clouded with gloom, for some reason.
Hinata flinched as he saw Nekoma's setter, Kenma, beside Kuroo. He was extra gloomy today.
Hinata ran towards the two, waving his hands in the air.
His eyes landed on Kenma. The surrounding gloominess seemed to have disappeared.
Kenma's gaze softened when Hinata approached him and Kuroo.
Kuroo
How many drills have you done?
Kuroo laughed obnoxiously.
Kenma's voice was timid, but clear.
He turned to Hinata with a small smile.
Kenma
We only have until tomorrow, Shoyo.
Kenma spoke to Hinata casually, completely ignoring Kuroo's existence beside him.
Hinata
Yeah! Time went really fast.
Kenma only managed to force out a weak smile as Hinata carried on their small talk.
Sugawara
He's so energetic.
Sugawara panted as he had just finished his diving drills. He rested a cool towel on top of his hair.
Nishinoya rested his hands on his hips as he laughed loudly.
Karasuno watched as Hinata continued to speak with Kuroo and Kenma.
Daichi
He's getting along with everyone so well.
Asahi
Yeah. I heard he's also good friends with Fukurodani's ace and setter.
Karasuno was gathered in the same corner, taking a rest from their recent penalty. Tsukishima took a bottle of water.
He glanced at Hinata, then to the others grouped with him.
Sugawara
Oh, hey, Tsukishima.
Sugawara
Don't you know them too?
Sugawara hummed and looked at Yamaguchi for a moment.
Sugawara
Yamaguchi mentioned that you were training with them.
Sugawara approached Tsukishima with a welcoming smile. The title "Mr. Refreshing" really did fit him.
Tsukishima's responses were always short.
It's not like he hated socializing. He just didn't know what to say at times.
Sugawara
So, what do you think about them?
Sugawara was in front of Tsukishima, but Tsukishima's eyes were fixed on the three.
All he could think about was his sudden outburst last night. He remembered how he yelled at Hinata, and how he walked away.
"Like an immature child."
Or at least, that's what Tsukishima had thought.
Tsukishima had left Sugawara hanging for a bit too long, which raised Sugawara's suspicions.
This urged him to ask something again.
Sugawara
I heard Hinata trains with you, too.
Sugawara wanted to test the waters.
Tsukishima's eyes darted from Hinata, to Sugawara. His lips were slightly parted, and he was a bit shocked.
He didn't know why he was. He just was.
The mentions of Hinata pulled on him.
Was all Sugawara heard from Tsukishima.
Sugawara's eyes widened a bit, realizing that they hadn't fixed whatever problem they had before that.
Rather than throwing pebbles at the pond, he threw an entire boulder.
Tsukishima
Sorry, Sugawara-san.
Tsukishima's eyes held Sugawara's.
Tsukishima
Our next match is about to start.
Tsukishima pointed at Daichi gesturing for the two of them to hurry up.
Tsukishima didn't have a good feeling about what Sugawara was about to say. And fortunately, he escaped whatever it was.
He had a feeling it was about Hinata.
Tsukishima felt something tugging on him. Something that wanted to drag him down and consume him.
Tsukishima didn't like it.
He needed to do something about it.
The night came, and it was time to go train again.
Tsukishima had already missed practice last night, so he had to make up for it tonight.
It's the last night, after all.
Tsukishima already prepared himself for what's to come. He even prepared himself to talk to Hinata if ever he insisted on talking.
He had excuses up his sleeves. Stupid reasons.
He didn't want to see Hinata right now, but he knew he can't keep running away.
And this kind of opportunity, training with the elites, might not come by again anytime soon.
Tsukishima needed to work on his blocking.
Especially if he wanted Karasuno to beat Shiratorizawa and go to the nationals.
Bokuto's voice echoed throughout the gymnasium.
Bokuto
You're late. Again!
Kuroo
Get over here and block for us.
Tsukishima placed his jacket on the bench where the water bottles were lined up.
Akaashi
A two versus two it is, then?
Tsukishima turned around to look at Akaashi. What does he mean by that? It was usually a three versus three match.
But his question was soon answered.
Bokuto
Yeah! Not like we have another choice, anyway.
Bokuto exclaimed, with Kuroo adding.
Kuroo
Those slackers. Hinata is getting triple the training the next time I see him.
Kuroo grumbled with a playful tone.
Tsukishima's eyes finally roamed the gymnasium. There were only 4 of them here.
Tsukishima was a bit frazzled that Hinata wasn't there. Just a few nights ago, he was practically begging to join in the training.
Now, he wasn't even attending?
He tried to think of possible reasons why Hinata couldn't go.
The curiosity was nipping at him.
But Tsukishima refuses to ask about this.
Kuroo
You're with me, glasses. Get over here.
Kuroo laughed as he was handed the ball to serve.
Tsukishima followed his instructions, positioning himself at the front, near the net.
Kuroo spun the ball in his hands a couple of times, before backing off the court line.
He threw the ball in the air, ran, and jumped up.
Kuroo's feet made a different noise on the wooden floor. It rang through Tsukishima's ears, and he could tell that Kuroo was going all in.
Kuroo struck the ball with full power. The ball practically deformed, before it travelled through the air in an incredible speed.
Just when Tsukishima thought he'd hit a service ace, Bokuto received the ball beautifully, sending the ball right above Akaashi's head.
Tsukishima glanced at Akaashi, then Bokuto.
Akaashi threw the ball to the left side, where Bokuto already was.
Luckily, Kuroo and Tsukishima were already there. The two of them jumped to block Bokuto's ball.
Bokuto's eyes widened as he saw the two of them jump for defense.
He saw that the space beside Kuroo was open.
And so, he slammed the ball there.
Only to be shut down by Kuroo's block.
Kuroo had moved his hands when he saw that Bokuto was about to hit the ball there.
Kuroo laughed obnoxiously, pissing Bokuto off.
Bokuto
Agh! Kuroo, you little...
Tsukishima let out a deep breath. That block Kuroo just did was pretty impressive.
How was he able to think that quick to change the direction of his block?
Tsukishima gulped. He was just that good.
Kuroo's word pulled Tsukishima's gaze to him.
Kuroo
That was read blocking.
Kuroo
I don't have to explain how it works, do I?
Kuroo smirked at Tsukishima.
Kuroo
You're smart enough.
Tsukishima's eyes twitched a bit from Kuroo's smug remarks. It was a compliment, so why was he so pissed?
The compliment sounded so half-baked.
He couldn't find a reason to be thankful at all.
Bokuto
Why are you all doing? Let's go for another set!
Bokuto proudly announced, with his hands resting on his hips.
Everyone else was panting and could barely stand up.
Most especially, Tsukishima.
It was a two versus two, so of course, there would be more movement.
Tsukishima could barely even speak. His hands rested onto his thighs, shifting his weight.
Kuroo
No, we will not, airhead.
Kuroo let out a loud sigh as he wiped his dripping sweat with a towel.
Bokuto
What?! Come on, it's our last night!
Akaashi
I agree with Kuroo-san.
Akaashi seemed to be taking it really well, compared to the other two less energetic ones.
He was calm and collected, but he couldn't hide the fact that he was also exhausted from moving around so much.
While Akaashi and Bokuto shared a "friendly" quarrel, Kuroo decided to speak to Tsukishima.
Kuroo
Tsukki, you're beat.
Kuroo pointed out Tsukishima's breathlessness. He cackled.
Kuroo
Your stamina is pretty limited, huh?
Tsukishima knew it well. His stamina was limited. Everything of him was limited.
It's not like he could just discover some sort of way to gain magic powers and overcome his limitations in an instant.
He knew he had a long way to go.
Just like he told Hinata before; he wasn't a machine.
The silence between Kuroo and Tsukishima lengthened. Kuroo felt his sweat drip down the side of face.
He didn't know if it was just because of the heat, or the awkwardness.
Tsukishima
I'm not Hinata.
Tsukishima finally broke the silence, which caught Kuroo off guard.
Kuroo
You're still growing, don't worry. You can work on that.
Kuroo said, returning Tsukishima's gaze.
Tsukishima
Limitations are limitations. I can't work on something that's considered a limit.
Tsukishima
I'm not as energetic as Hinata.
Kuroo's brows furrowed as he eyed down Tsukishima. He studied his expression, but even Kuroo can't read this one.
Kuroo
Never mind, Bokuto. We'll take you up on that offer.
Kuroo
Let's play one last set.
