Chapter 5 - The boy who was forced to study the Bible

"Who are you ?'',she asked gently

"We're from the New York Police Department”

“Are you Mr Simon's ex wife ?",Stephanie asked

"I have nothing to say about him",she tried to walk away

"We're here because of your son",added Scott

"My son ?"

"What happened to him ?"

"Did that scum do something to him ?",she asked

"Let's talk about it inside" l,replied Scott

"Enter please" she guided them in

She offered them a seat and a cup of coffee each

"Please tell me what happen'',she begged

"Apparently, your son has been missing for a month",Scott said

"What !"

"John has been missing ?"

"What will I do now ?",she cried out

"Please calm down. We're here because Mr Simon isn't helping us much'',Scott said

"Darn that bastard !"

'' Please , Detective, help me find John”

“My son must be found,please",she begged in tears

" Don't worry. We'll find him soon"

"Can you get us a recent photograph of your son ?",Scott demanded

"Yes. Please, wait a minute",Annie replied

She left and came back with a photograph of his son

"Here's it",she handed over the photograph to Scott

"When was this photograph taken ?",Scott asked

"It was taken last year around August during his convocation ceremony”

“I was ashamed to face him”

“So , I took the photograph while hiding from him",she explained

"Can you tell us what John's childhood was like ?",he demanded

''It was precisely why I left him”

“Since John turned 10, David started maltreating him",she said with a trembling voice

"Can you please elaborate on that maltreatment ?",he asked

"He was forcing John to study the bible”

“He would lock him up in his room and hit him everytime he failed to answer his questions from the bible",she explained

"Then, why don't you report him for child abuse ?",Scott asked

"I tried to report him once but he threatened to give up on supporting John in his education”

“John's dream is to be a surgeon”

“Back then,my business wasn't doing so well”

“ I didn't want John to give up on his dream. so , I chose not to report him”

“I left when I couldn't take it anymore”

“I couldn't bear to watch my son going through that everyday.”

“So , I left.”

“I should have taken him with me back then" she explained in tears

Stephanie offered her a handkerchief to wipe her face . All these while , she's been writing down everything in her jotter

"Okay”

“But, why was Mr Simon was obsessed with his son studying the bible ?",Scott asked

"David was born in a believers’ home”

“His father was a reputable priest”

“All his siblings memorized the bible while they were young but David wasn't able to”

“I heard he disgraced his father once during a church service”

“Perhaps he was frustrated by his father” Annie explained

"Oh. I see”

“So, he transferred his aggression onto his son" stated Scott

"Yes" replied Annie in a faint voice

"But, how do you know about Mr Simon's past ?”

“Did he tell you about it ?",Scott asked

" Yes. Every once in a while , he would rambles about what he went through during his childhood",she replied

"Hmm....I see”

“Is there anything else you can tell us ?”

“Anything that might help in finding your son ?",he demanded

"Ugh. I can't think of anything”

“But you can give me your contact , I'll call you if I remember anything",she replied

"Alright. Thanks for your time",Scott gave him his business card

"Please , help me find my son",she begged once again

Scott and Stephanie left after assuring to find her son.

"huh. It's really a nice idea" said Stephanie while driving

"What idea ?",Scott asked

"Not telling her that her son is a murder suspect",she replied

"Hmm",Scott scoffed

They arrived at the station and headed straight to their unit.

"We have the forensic report !",Frank claimed

"The report ?",Scott wondered

"Yes, the forensic report of the blood found on those knives",he replied

"Oh , let's see",said Scott as Frank handed over the report to him

“Oh, the blood is that of a dog”

“How interesting”*uttered Scott

"what !",uttered Stephanie as she hijacked the report from Scott

"That scum set up everything quite well”

“He knew we're after him , so he set up this whole situation",said Scott

"Woah....this is crazy !",Stephanie uttered

"Yeah , he's playing us",added Ray

"Do you look into the whereabouts of Allen as I asked ?",demanded Scott

"Of course ,we did”

“He was frequenting a bar at night three days before the murder of her wife”

“We also found out he stalked his wife till the day she was murdered",Ray explained

"Hmm",Scott nodded

"Gosh ! I can't believe that scum",Stephanie said

"We also got a conclusive evidence",added Frank

"A conclusive evidence ?",asked Scott

"Yes,a conclusive evidence that prove Allen is an accomplice",he replied

Frank brought out his phone and played a video. It was the CCTV footage of the hotel where Mr Peter and Ms Allen were murdered.

The footage showed Ms Allen and Mr Peter arriving at the hotel on 10th of February around 11:30lam. As soon as they entered the hotel , Allen walked in right behind them. He was seen talking to the receptionist and left later. As soon as he walked out of the hotel, he made a call and left the place.

"He must have gave a call to the John David" Scott said

"That mean he found out their hotel room number from the receptionist ?" Stephanie asked

"It's obvious. They already fired the receptionist but we got her address and interviewed her" Ray replied

"According to her , Allen impersonated a police officer. She was threatened with obstruction of justice. So , she told him their room number" explained Frank

"If the hotel management fired the receptionist, it means they're aware of what the receptionist has done. That's why they erased the CCTV footage. They testified to the police officers in charge of the case that the CCTV camera malfunctioned for a while. So ,how do you get it ?" Scott asked

"Apparently, they made a copy of the footage before erasing it in case things went wrong. I checked their log and realized the footage was copied and erased. So,we threatened to arrest the C.E.O of the hotel as an accomplice and they ended up giving us what we want" Frank explained

"Oh. It seems you're getting better , Frank. You've done well" said Scott with a smile

Scott played the recording he made when interviewing Jeff Annie and they all listened to it

"Just as you've heard , he was forced to study the bible by his father through child abuse" said Scott

"That's why that punk always leave a bible verse at the scene of his crime" Ray said

" He was forced to study the bible against his wish. He must have feared his father a lot back then . But when it reach a certain stage ,his fear turned into obsession and he became delusional" Scott explained

"Huh ...his fear turned to obsession" she nodded

"We have enough evidence to prove he aided and abetted his wife murder. His confession is not even necessary" Ray said

"It's not necessary but we have to get it. To avoid complications in the future" Scott said
