the brother or the girl friend

Taehyung

"Hey, Hyemin."

"Yes, oppa?"

I bit my bottom lip before I asked, "Do you think I've changed?"

"What do you mean?" Hyemin asked while eating her ice cream.

Since it was weekends, I asked my girlfriend if she could meet up with him in the town park and she agreed. Hyemin didn't really like the outdoor actually. She said that the wind could ruin her hair or something, but I loved hanging around at the park. This was where I usually wandered around to clear my mind off.

"Jimin said that I've changed since I dated you. Is that true?"

She raised an eyebrow. "No, you haven't. You didn't change at all, oppa," she said. Seeing me looking so confused, it made Hyemin curious. "What's wrong, oppa?"

"Nothing, I'm okay," I said, putting on a fake smile.

Hyemin looked at her wrist watch and sighed. "Oppa, I have to go now. I'm really sorry, is that okay? I'm sorry that I can't stay with you for a little longer."

"Where do you want to go? I can take you there."

"I have a big family meeting. I can't bring you right now. Sorry, oppa," she said as she stood up and grabbed her purse. As soon Hyemin left with her car, I felt quite lonely. I was alone on the park bench, hoping there would be someone beside me.

"Taehyung?"

I was a bit startled, causing me to jump from the bench. "You scared me!"

"Um, hi?" she said, waving her hand in front of my face.

"O-oh, Jihae. Hey."

She chuckled because of how I was still holding my chest, calming myself down as I was genuinely surprised when she patted my shoulder. "What are you doing here alone in the park?"

"Yourself?"

"I was riding my bicycle around this park. I like the weather, cool but sunny," she said, putting down her bicycle on the ground before taking a seat next to me. "So, what are you doing?"

"Nothing," I said, blurting out a big fat lie. "By the way, um, Jihae?"

"Yes?"

I sighed before looking at the ground. "I'm sorry about my behavior yesterday. I was.. I don't know, I just can't understand myself."

Jihae put on a smile. "Nah, it's okay. I mean really, it's totally okay. I didn't get offended anyway. I'm already used to it," she answered, causing me to feel bad honestly. Being used to mean comments was definitely not something that you SHOULD be used to. Jihae must have gone through a lot, especially because of people like me.

Seeing me a lot quieter than I used to be in school made her worry I guess. She asked, "What's wrong? You didn't break up with Choi Hyemin, did you?"

"No, of course not."

"So, what's the problem?" she said. "You can share it to me if you want."

I kept my mouth quiet as I kept thinking of the right words to spill out. Finally after a while, I decided to speak up. "Jimin and I had a fight last night, or let's just say that we're not good now," I said, which made her giggle for some reason. "Yah, why are you laughing? Do you want to listen to my story or not?"

"Sorry. It's just funny, you know," she said. "You two are like a couple who are in a fight."

"Aish. Jimin said that I've changed. He said that I was really different than who I was used to be," I said, "but Hyemin said that I'm just the same as always and I don't know who I should believe in."

Jihae was thinking about something. "I mean, obviously Jimin knows you longer, right? Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean that I don't want you to believe in Hyemin, but a brother is usually someone who knows you way better than everyone else, including your own girlfriend."

I went silent again. By the way she said it, there seemed to be something behind the story. "It seems like you also have a brother or a sister. Do you really have one?"

"Well, I did."

"You did?"

She avoided any eye contact at that time. She kept looking at the ground and sighing. "I once had an older sister and an older brother. They... well..."

I gulped. "Oh, shit, I'm sorry."

"No, it's okay," she answered. "Well, they died 10 years ago, when I was still 7 years old."

"I didn't mean to."

It seemed like she was giving her best effort to put on a smile. "It's okay, Taehyung," she said while smiling. Without even realizing at that time, I thought that Jihae's smile was the prettiest smile I had ever seen.

[2 months later]

"Oppa, I want that!" Hyemin exclaimed as she pointed at a shoe and make up sets on a store.

I took a deep breath to hide my frustration. "You already have a lot of that."

She shrugged. "Yeah, so why? You have a lot of money, oppa. Are you saving or what?"

"It's not like that. I mean, look at your shoes right now, it's exactly the same as the shoes that you're pointing at! You already bought a lot of stuffs, Hyemin."

"But the color is different, oppa! Can't you just understand girls?"

i rolled his eyes. "Fine, here's my credit card. Just be hurry, I don't like waiting too long."

"Alright, thank you, oppa! Love you lots!" Hyemin said before putting a kiss on my left cheek and running directly to the store.

I waited Hyemin while sitting on a chair. I was definitely not in a good mood and Hyemin was getting on my nerves. I wasn't sure if this was because of my bad mood, but she was turning annoying day by day. She always forced me to buy everything she wanted and that pissed me off. Even though I did have money, I honestly didn't like girls who wasted money only to buy useless stuffs.

And then at that very moment, I suddenly thought of Jihae.

After a few hours had passed, Hyemin finally showed up with a lot of shopping bags on her hands.. "Oppa, I'm back! It didn't take a long time, right?"

"Yeah, you only took 3 hours," I answered sarcastically as I rolled my eyes for the 999th time in this week. "Now, where's my credit card and the receipt?"

Hyemin handed me my card back and the receipt of things that she bought, which made my eyes widened. "What the hell?! You used 9,500,000 won?! What did you buy?!"

"I only bought 6 pairs of these silver shoes, 10 different lipsticks, make up sets, and.. oh! I also bought the new expensive brand of purse! It's really pretty, oppa!"

I was starting to get frustrated when Hyemin started to play baby. "Didn't I only allow you to buy a pair of shoes and a lipstick?!" I said as I started to raise my voice.

"I know, but look at this, oppa!" she exclaimed while showing me the lipsticks. "It's really pretty and cute! You have to know that the lipsticks has actually 15 different colors but I only bought 10 of it!"

I ruffled my hair out of frustration. "Oh my God, Hyemin. You've wasted my money!!"

"Yeah, so what? You're rich, oppa, why would you think about it?"

As we were bickering, we didn't realize that we were actually really loud and it made everyone watch us and quietly laugh at us.

"You know what, Hyemin, that's it! I'm done with you!"

Hyemin raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
