As I looked at his kind face, a wave of uncertainty washed over me. They say that a face doesn't always reveal the true nature of a person, so should I trust him? Am I even in a position to make a choice? But then again, do I have a choice in this situation?

With a sob escaping from my lips, I nodded my head and whispered, "Yes, please. I'm desperately in need of help."

The young man nodded sympathetically and gestured for me to get into the car. As I climbed in, he immediately handed me a bottle of water and a first aid kit, his eyes filled with kindness and concern.

"Thank you so much," I whispered as I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, but my tears didn't want to stop.

"Hey, please don't cry. You're safe now, and there's no need to be scared," the young man reassured me with genuine concern in his voice. "So, tell me, where do you want to go now? Do you remember your address? Or would you like to go to the police first?"

His calming words eased some of my fear, and I took a deep breath to compose myself before responding. "Thank you," I managed to say, my voice still shaky. "I remember my address. Can you please take me home?"

The idea of going to my parents crossed my mind, but I hesitated. How could I explain to them what had happened? That Dominic had taken me to an event and completely forgotten about my presence? I knew that revealing this could potentially disturb the friendship between our families, and I didn't want that to happen.

And I knew that going to the police would likely be fruitless. I hadn't seen the culprit's face, and given that it was an elite event, it would be difficult to prove my case. Moreover, involving the authorities would only escalate the situation and cause unnecessary stress for my parents.

As I looked at him, he gave me a warm smile, his green eyes filled with kindness. In the midst of this unfamiliar and dangerous situation, he appeared like a guardian angel, offering his help without hesitation. It was a comforting reminder that even in the darkest moments, there are still good-hearted people exist in this cruel world. He helped me when I was so vulnerable, and I knew that I would never forget his kindness.

"Are you okay?" his concerned voice reached my ears.

"Yes." I nodded weakly in response. Despite my efforts to appear composed, I knew that my emotions were still raw, and the events of the evening weighed heavily on my mind.

He didn't ask any more questions, and for that, I was grateful. The entire car ride passed in silence as I stared out of the window, tears streaming down my face as I grappled with my emotions.

In that moment, I couldn't help but reflect on the painful realization that my feelings for Dominic were unrequited. To me, he was my whole universe, but to him, I was nothing more than a passing acquaintance. Like a delicate verse in an unwritten poem, that I had poured my soul into but that was never meant to be returned.

As the streetlights blurred past, I tried to make sense of it all, to understand how I could have been so mistaken about his feelings towards me. But the more I dwelled on it, the more it hurt. The truth was like a dagger through my heart, piercing through the facade of hope I had clung to for so long.

I tried to push away the hurt, to bury it beneath layers of denial, but it persisted, gnawing at me from within. How could I have been so blind, so foolish to believe that one day he will feel the same way?

Lost in my thoughts, I barely noticed when the car came to a stop in front of my house.

"Miss, we're here," his voice brought me back from my thoughts. I turned to look outside the window, and then at him. The young man regarded me with sympathy.

"Thank you so much," I said, giving him a weak smile, trying very hard not to break down in front of him again.

As I reached for the car door, he stopped me. "Wait a minute, miss," he said, searching something in the back seat. Confused, I looked at him, and a few seconds later, he handed me a jacket. I looked at him, with question in my eyes. He hesitated for a moment, then glanced down.

"Your back, I mean, your dress is torn," he explained softly. "Please put this on, it will hide it."

Grateful for his thoughtfulness, I took the jacket from him and slipped it on, concealing my misery. "Thank you," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper, as I stepped out of the car. The cool night air brushed against my skin sending shiver ran down my spine.

Once again, tears began to stream down my cheeks as I made my way towards my house, unable to bring myself to look back at my guardian angel.

Upon entering as I locked the door behind me I broke down in the doorway. I mourned for every shattered piece of my heart. What struck me most was the bitter irony—I couldn't even blame him because he was never the one who broke my heart; It was me, I did it to myself.
