Chapter 14

☆ Removing Her Mask ☆

“So what exactly happened to Madilyn?” Nicole asked with curiosity as she watched Davis dry his raven hair with a towel.

“An intruder or a traitor pushed her out of the window.” Davis sighed, making Nicole raise an eyebrow. She looked away from Davis and thought; how could someone enter a heavy-guarded palace of vampires? Nicole started to twirl her hair and bite her lip in thought. Nicole steals a glance of Davis, to see him look very worried and just...not okay. Something I need her said to cheer him up. She can cheer him up before murdering him, right?

“We can always talk if you feel fear, my prince.” She said, making him look at her with confused eyes, before smiling at her brightly.

“You promised me to show me your demons.” Nicole looks at him in confusion before laughing.

“Why would you care about me? As I recall, vampires only see us as a snack.” Davis frowned at her words before shaking his head.

“I said I’m not like other vampires. And it’s plain awkward, Nicole. We share the same room, same bed since my mother refuses to give a mattress for you and the same air we breath. I have to get to know the person that I’ve shared a room with for two weeks already.” Davis explained, walking over to her and taking a hold of her hand.

“Let’s take off that mask of yours, shall we?” Nicole gasped when he basically enveloped his arms around her waist before jumping out of the balcony. He jumped off the balcony while carrying Nicole, who was screaming for dear life. Davis chuckled at her terrified face and just before they should enter the ocean, he flew up in the night sky. Nicole had her arms around his shoulders, holding into his shoulder blades while she tried not to look down.

Davis smiled before landing on the roof of the palace, placing Nicole down gently.

“Your crazy.” She breathed out, afraid if she will let go of him she may fall off.

“Why thank you.” Davis grinned, his pearly fangs shine. Nicole and Davis looked up to all the stars that decorate the dark sky. It was magnificent for Davis, but not for Nicole, and Davis noticed this.

”Whats wrong?” He asked, making Nicole frown at him and let go of his shoulders, taking steps back. What’s missing is the rain, but the stars are just enough to remind her of that...night. She looked away, not knowing how to answer. Davis sighed and gave her a sad smile, reaching for her wrist.

”My mother and father used to dance on the rooftops before they wed, at least that’s what mother told me. She also told me dancing under the night sky and the wind as your music always calms you down. In case you haven’t noticed, mother can be wise.” He settled her hand on his shoulder, and took her other hand in his. His free hand dropped on waist, bringing her slightly closer.

Leaves were blown by the wind, circling them and playing music that only listeners can hear. Nicole was about to pull back, in fear, everything was just way too samiliar yo that night. The wind, the sky, the stars. Davis pulled her closer and leaned down to her ear.

”I can feel your heartbeat, your afraid.” Since vampire can hear a humans heart beat, and feel the pumping of blood if they touch a human, Davis can too.

“Face your fears, whatever they are.” Nicole’s sharp breathing turned calm, laying her head on his shoulder on instinct. Davis hummed softly, his arms wrapped around her waist while her arms were around his torso. She has no idea what she was doing. He just felt...warm. Davis flew up, not too high, just enough to make it feel like they were dancing on the clouds. She held tightly on to him.

“I was twelve, my dad lost his job and couldn’t pay the taxes for three months. W-which led to execution, right in front of me. T-they—“ She sucked in a deep breath, and exhaled with the tears falling down her cheeks.

”Don't continue, I understand.” Davis was holding her with one arm around her waist, using his hand to wipe her tears away. They remained in the sky for a few minutes, in embrace. They both raised their heads at the same time, noses touching and lips dangerously close. Davis stared at her eyes then her parted lips, Nicole also stared at his eyes then her orbs fell on his lips. They both looked at each other before turning away and Davis flying down back to the balcony, placing her down.

“Thank you for accepting my demons and showing me yours.” Davis grinned, Nicole actually grinned back.

“This isn’t normal, love. We haven’t had an intruder or a traitor since I was six!” Vincent groaned, rubbing the bridge of his nose with frustration. Annabeth pouts and strokes his cheek softly.

”Its okay, Vin, it’s nothing our warriors can’t handle. Also, we have much more important issues to worrry about.” Vincent settled his hand on her hand.

“Please don’t tell me it’s the werewolves again.” Vincent had his eyes wide. In the past few days, there were conflict involving vampires sneaking in a werewolf territory. And Vincent had to convince the werewolves it wasn’t an attack, which took a while. Resulting in black circles under the kings eyes.

“No, dear. Ms Park is visiting.”

Alice Rosie Park, is visiting Mavernem.

♡Sorry this is quite short! Next chapter hopefully will be much longer.

♡But we have a question?: who do you ‘ship?’ (We know it’s too early but still) Davis and Nicole (Davicole) or Davis and Madilyn (Mavis/Madivis)?
