Chapter 5

Samuel and Aaron, along with their gang of friends, were seated on a wooden bench under a huge narrow-leaf cottonwood tree, at the corner of Ashwood's soccer field, where many of the yellowish narrow-leaf cottonwood trees were planted.

" .....And later when Mr. Fisher found his handkerchief, he realised that the girls had used it as a rag to wipe their seats because it looked dirty and too colourful!"

Samuel, the funny guy and the odd storyteller amongst the group of friends was narrating a story about their soccer coach at the moment, making the whole gang laugh.

"Sam, isn't that Vanessa? I think she's coming here with her friend." One of Samuel's good mates informed him pointing at Vanessa with slight movements of their eyes and chin.

That being said, the whole gang at the moment took a few more glances at the girls coming towards them, not because they were attracted to the latter but solely due to a man's instinct to appreciate the beauty of women or rather females.

At this point, Aaron, who had been silent for a while now noticed one of the guys' eyes, sitting on his right, shining with a hidden agenda. He nudged the aforementioned guy's head with his elbow and warned in a playful tone.

" Tsk tsk Bill, Aristotle once said beauty and art should be enjoyed and admired from afar. Do not greed over the impossible!"

The guy named Bill quickly looked away and gave an embarrassed laugh, nodding to Aaron's warning. This was heard by the whole gang and everyone had faint cold sweats.

"Bro.... It was Oscar Wilde who said that not Aristotle! And stop making the atmosphere so cold. Guys, you heard him!" Samuel laughed out loud in amusement at this sight.

Unbeknownst to both the friends, neither Aristotle nor Oscar Wilde gave the aforementioned saying.

On the other hand, Vanessa and Kennedy looked at the group of laughing friends like weirdos.

"Samuel, Aaron, We need to talk about something."

Vanessa got to the point without beating around the bush, leading to Kennedy and the group of 'weirdos' giving some space for the trio.

" So what's up?" Samuel asked in his usual tone of smugness, while Aaron just looked on with a usual silence, familiar to all three of them.

" Did you guys recently say something about me and you and us, being close and stuff like that to anyone? Especially girls?"

Vanessa said in a solemn tone pointing her index finger at them between speaking.

The boys looked at each other and presumably started talking in their eyes and chin language.

" You told your embarrassing childhood stories with her to someone?"

Samuel asked Aaron hinting with his eyes enlarged for a second.

"Nah, it's not me. What about you?"

Aaron narrowed his eyes and lifted his chin slightly, conveying a message without uttering a word.

Vanessa looked at the duo, puzzled.

" We didn't. What's wrong?" Aaron said, helpless, at the betrayal of his friend, who abandoned him after giving him a side-eye in front of Vanessa.

" Well, Raelynn came to me a moment ago and told me that there was a rumour going on about me being a third-wheeler in your relationships. So I thought one of you narrated some of your stories, that included me resulting in the rumour."

Vanessa explained, frustration and dubiety on her slightly wrinkled forehead and tightened eyebrows.

" What?! That wretch, Raelynn, said that?"

A look of disgust and displeasure appeared on Samuel's well-humoured face and serious contempt on Aaron's. One could get the feeling or basic understanding that there was indeed some kind of beef between the boys and Raelynn.

"Let's go! We'll go teach her a lesson!"

Samuel continued with vigour and seriousness, feeling the need to protect his friend.

"Good Lord! Are you crazy? Do you want to give her more chances to spread rumours about us?"

Vanessa retorted to Samuel's feasible but not logical idea.

A wonder of luck or coincidence played at this point, as the boys spotted their girlfriends, Kylie and Jaylen, striding towards them.

Kylie, who was of the same age as her peers, possessed a more grown-up physique when compared to the other girls. She had a well-rounded chest and a body that was slightly more developed than the rest of her friends. Additionally, she was tall for her age, standing at 5 foot 4 inches, which was two inches taller than Vanessa, Kennedy, and Jaylen, who each measured 5 foot 2 inches.

Kylie's eyes were perfectly round, with a captivating allure that seemed to transcend her age. There's a certain seductive quality to her gaze that hints at the stunning woman she's sure to become as she grows older.

" Oh guys, it's great you all are here." Jaylen chimed in her sweet feminine voice.

"Do you guys know what Raelynn just told us and left?" Kylie's eyebrows were slightly raised as she questioned the previous trio before her. Her hand rested on her hip, adding to her confident and assertive demeanour.

" What more did she say to you now?"

Samuel asked, with faint sparks of anger building up in him.

Kylie looked right and left to check if that girl was around and then proceeded to answer.

" Jaylen and I met on our way back from the washroom. There we met Raelynn who just told us about a stupid rumour regarding Vaness. She claimed that she heard it as a rumour but the said rumour was true."

"And that rumour is me being the third wheel between your relationships?" Vanessa quickly continued with a doubtful tone.

"Ohh! How did you know?" Jaylen asked while Kylie just looked surprised at Vanessa.

" Just moments ago, she interrupted me and Ken, to tell us there was a rumour like that about me. And she heard it from some friends."

Vanessa answered in the gossipy mode tone.
